Inherent Dynamic Range

This shot of "the cave" at La Jolla, California, shows the inherent dynamic range of the K-5. Shot was taken at 1/320 second, f/8, ISO 200, using a Pentax 18-250 mm lens set at 23 mm. TAv setting. Note the detail in both the sunlit and shadow areas in this picture.

Birds in flight with the K-5

This first shot of a pelican was taken at 1/640, f/9, ISO 400, using Pentax 18-250mm at 250 mm. TAv setting, continuous focus.

Same pelican, 1/400, f/7, ISO 400, Pentax 18-250 mm @ 250 mm. TAv setting, continuous focus.

And here's a seagull - 1/500, f/9, ISO 400, 250mm, TAv, continuous focus:

All shots taken near La Jolla, California.

wow, that Tammy 70-200 is an amazing lens! And you really bring out the best in it. Excellent work.

LBA is growing by the second. Do you find it's difficult to hand hold? If you can get shots like this without a tripod, I'm sold.

All of these are really nice shots. Thanks for sharing. I just bought a K-7 a few months ago so I won't be upgrading to the K-5, but it's not because the camera doesn't produce awesome results. WOW, these are impressive.

no tripod nor monopod. SR in K-5 is doing the job!!! I have handheld pictures with really slow shutter speed with this lens and they are surprisingly sharp! LOVE IT .
K-5 + tamron 70-200 2.8 is amazing couple!

Your art is very nice. But what scares me is that the K5 and some of the other latest digital cameras are so good that even more people will abandon film. We see from the recent disappearance of 2x3 sheet film and all of the quickloads that as soon as demand drops to a certain point, Kodak & Fuji will discontinue the product. I probably will not live long enough to see film disappear completely, but the selection will keep shrinking. I already have to mail order the films I like because the local stores have cut back to a couple of types, and no chrome. If I buy a K5, my film cameras will probably sit on the shelf. Yikes!
Ziggy,
I understand your perspective, however, having already gone over to the dark side, I must say I truly have no regrets. Digital cameras will only continue to get better, but they are already produce truly spectacular results, as the shots in this post demonstrate.

The purple iris is stunning and I'm beginning to covet the lens also!

On the rose, is there room to pull in some of the red channel and (also) minimize the purple fringing? Reds... always challenging... Still a wonderful shot though, who needs 3D when you've already attained it.

Edit: I see you've pulled in some of the red channel and removed most of the purple fringing on the right side of the rose.
On second thought, the highlights of the "old" blown red channel may have felt better (maybe just reduce the purple effect of the old blown reds)??? But the purple fringing removal is an improvement to an already nice shot.

P.S. Please forgive my critical analysis... and the first shot below this post is spectacular!
