Heres a couple of macro shots with my k-5 and sigma 105mm macro lens. I need ring flash to help reduce motion blur lol. I could use a tripod but i find its inconvenient for macro shots because your subjects never want to stand still, which of course adds the challenge and the excitement of the hunt. If any one has any experience with the Metz Mecablitz 15 MS-1 could you please let me know what you think or recommend any other good ring flashes for pentax.

I've got an old Lester Dine that I use when I need a ringlight. I recommend you get something with manual controls, as P-TTL is often fooled by shiny bugs (any time there's a specular highlight in the image, P-TTL seems to puke and die for me). I've also gotten excellent results using my Metz 48AF-1, tilted down, with a 10x10 lumiquest softbox, with the velcro shoved around so that it's out over the end of my 100mm Schneider and at about 45 degrees to the subject. It gives a much more even, diffused light, without the hard ring, provides some modeling, and still 'freezes' the action.

I recommend you experiment with other macro flash solutions; ringlight shots are great for textbooks, but i grew tired of them quickly. One of the best "macro flash" solutions I came up with was a cardboard box lined with aluminum foil, with a hole cut for the on-camera flash to poke into at the end, and a diffuser across the other end, cut at an angle to the lens. It gave me a ~1"x 6" 'striplight' and gave some really nice modeling, AND let me use P-TTL with no ugly underexposure caused by sharp specular highlights.

Taken today with a Tammy 28~200 XR I am testing, this was the first shot with it.

K5, f/4.5, ISO 800, 1/8000 sec (wind blowing really hard, bumped iso to get shutter speed) - converted to B&W



And, just gonna edit this post and add another B&W shot, this one was also done with the Tammy mentioned above - driving down the road and seen this, so stopped and took the shot...
