Here are a few taken with the K5 and the DA21 at "Wheels and Keels" in Seabrook, TX.

Visited by this strange beast today, a turkey vulture, who briefly dropped in to look at a nearby dead harbor seal. I grabbed this shot in a hurry with my Tamron 70-300, this photo cropped down heavily to about 50%.

K-5, Tamron 70-300 telemacro, 300mm, F5.6, 125th sec, ISO 160, overcast day, autofocus, Tav mode.

Those things are all over 'round the midwest nowadays. There were three or four wheeling over the daughter's school today, although I rarely see 'em on the ground like that. Great shot!

Wow, look at that hooked beak. I don't think I'd want that bird circling over my kids school.

Thanks John. I have lots of "straight on" shots, but they quickly become boring.

Nice shot. I guess you don't get them out your way very often? Growing up in the south, they're all over the place. Always good for some gallows humor, though.

Since they stopped allowing the indiscriminate use of DDT, the whole population of carnivorous birds has really increased here in the midwest. When I was growing up we'd get excited about a single hawk we saw out in the country, and seeing an owl was nearly unheard of. Now these thing are *everywhere*. They're ugly on the ground, but...

I keep seeing them flying 'round and imagining them thinking "You say I'm ugly, but I can *fly*, bee-otch!". I've watched 'em soar for ten, fifteen minutes without ever flapping once.

I live amid coastal farmlands, full of rabbits, gophers, and mice. It must be easy pickings for raptors, mostly hawks. They sit on power lines along the fields watching. Every now and then they silently glide down to the ground and try to grab a tasty lunch. This summer, I plan to spend a few hours sitting at the edge of a road and try to catch the sequence with my 7 frames a second K-5 and make one of those composite photos in which you see the whole sequence of swoop, grab, ascend. In the harbor I want to do the same thing with pelicans diving for sardines. Those are some of the reasons I got the K-5 in the first place.

I think it is human nature to envy the flying of birds. I satisfy that envy by flying electric powered Zagi's.
