jstevewhite,
What lens were you using?
Did you use a flash?

Nice work
Thanks!

That was the Schneider D-Xenon 100mm f2.8 Samsung (re-badged Pentax 100mm f2.8, I'm not certain which model). On-camera flash into a diffuser.

Here's another from this afternoon:

Awesome job

However, if I had those creatures in my backyard, I would stay indoors!

Self portrait and some local pics!

Self done with 6-sec exposure at night with a flashlight. 1:1 pic long exposure with welders glass as filter. Cotton candy water thanks to raw processing.

LOL! The crab spider is maybe half an inch in wingspan; the little jumper is only about 3/16" long. Not very terrifying in real life.

A couple from the "Gatorade Free Flow Tour" yesterday in Baltimore. Both shot with the 35 2.4 @ 2.8, 4000-ISO w/ SS 1/125~1/400:

I can generally get right in the thick of the action as most of the skate scene knows me from the works I have done in the skate community (community advocacy, sponsored events, and mentoring).

I shoot skate events regularly, will be shooting the Dew Tour this year also. I may be at Flushing Meadows for the Maloof Money Cup this year, I have done work for a bunch of the world wide labels over the years (Vans, DC, PlanB, Zero, Etc..) as a software engineer and actually grew up within the industry and can generally pull press passes for any of the major events, really good stuff.

Awesome Joe. My son is into the BMX/Freestyle bike scene (or was), and I've never really shot skateboarders before, but I bet it's fun. I don't even know what the Maloof Money Cup is... LOL! Over to google I go!

Great stuff though... enjoyed your shots a lot!

Here is another one from yesterday, tried to get the "Gatorade FreeFlow Tour" wall in the picture as one of the skaters did a wall ride on to it, I thought I had it framed but when I pulled it off saw that I didn't. I still sent it to gatorade and I think they will be posting some of the pics on their site.

It is EXTREMELY tough shooting inside of that place. Everyone that shoots in there shoots with flash, which is annoying to the skaters, so I went with the K5 and bumped the ISO up a bit. Issue is the lighting itself, it is right in the "Dead Zone", meaning you can get the pics without the flash using the high ISO, but the type of lighting in the place really fools the processing of the sensor, that is why although 4000 ISO the K5 really handles very well, it still shows quite a bit on the pictures taken in this place. Even with fast lenses, its still a real pain shooting insode of this place...

Awesome effects and light! And your photos say some things I am very interested in learning to say as well. I have very little to show right now, but let me put up one of my experiments.

K-5, Pentax SMC-DAL 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AL lens, 1/100s, F/4, ISO 1600, BW conv-pp.
