Wow! This thread is just awesome - so much variety! Very glad so many people have contributed to it, keeps me hoping that something I take will turn out well. It's not the camera's fault I'm so uninspired at the moment. Thank you all for such impressive photos to look at.

Henke...Otis thanks you for the fine looking Squirrel shot. What a cute little guy he is! I love my Bigma....drop me a line and tell me about the HSM....I am curious, I may upgrade mine.

Ming....That is an excellent bird shot, just beautiful!

This is the best thread in the K5 Forum, some very fine shooting from the K5 in here!
Regards!

Finally got around to editing some of my nephew...love the expression on his face in this one. It was taken with a Sigma 50mm f1.4, which is a REALLY nice lens which I'd highly recommend!

He must have seen something really scary, a NIKON perhaps - or Canon ?
I hope he is not scarred for life.

Greetings

Kick Off!

DA* 50-135mm @ 135mm F/9.0 1/1000s. Some heavy PP to make it look flat, more linear and minimal.

DA55-300 @300, f/8.0, 1/500th, ISO 320.

Are those sharpening artefacts around his body? It looks OK full sized.

Richard.

Perhaps someone can advise as to why these images are softer online? They've been resized by the forum software. Is this because I don't have a 'pro' account?

Heh. At thiis time of year I prefer to see magpies on the ground. Can't get swooped from there

The forum's resizing process does soften images. At least, that's my understanding. I haven't heard that there are any diferences for different account types.

There are some stickies with info about uploading/posting photos at the beginning of the Post your Photos forum here Post your photos! - PentaxForums.com

I find it easiest to link to an image from smugmug/flickr/etc. that's already resized to within the forum's limits.

Hi
It could very well be the case, its hard to say. But this is one of those images where one is tempted to say the bird got photoshopped into the picture. Now I know it is not. I got into big trouble a few days ago here in this forum for making such a bold statement only to be proven wrong and I am smarting over it ever since. The bird sits "on the picture" rather than "in the picture". A very sharp object with a white sharpening halo against a smooth out of focus background always has this effect to me.

In any case, I have been using for many years now a dedicated sharpening program. It will allow you fine tune the sharpening process and one of its big strengths is to eliminate black and white sharpening halos. If your pic has this white sharpening halo this program will fix it. I don't use any other program to do my sharpening.

Greetings

P.S. You are not a Collingwood supporter are you?

Greetings

Yeah, I feed a family of Maggies and they've just had two babies. They threw one out of the nest as it had deformed legs... ..took it to the vet and they insisted on putting it down. As far as swooping goes, if you raise your hand and they back off.

I'm such a lousy photographer I probably shouldn't upload anything for awhile. My eyes don't really allow me to see what's really in focus a lot of the time and the AF system doesn't seem to help in critical situations either.
