Man I had to check and make sure I was not wearing 3D glasses on that second pumpkin patch picture. Mind sharing what you did, or a copy straight out of camera so I can reverse engineer that look, lol.

HA! that's funny. Yeah I'll definitely post the original when I get home for comparison.

I used a custom-preset in LR3 and tweaked it quite a bit to end up with this. The dynamic range of the K5 is really amazing. I'm assuming that, along with the DA40, is what gives the 3D effect.

hey Rob, here's the jpeg, converted from RAW, straight out of the camera. No adjustments. This lens does most the work - it's phenomenal.

DA40 Ltd., f/7.1, 1/320, ISO 800

Hi

The second picture looks a bit like what people did to photographs before colour photography was invented. They took a monochrome photograph and hand painted colours over them. I think it was called "hand coloratura" (as in music). I did some myself in the 70th as part of some photography training I undertook.

Greetings

Yes, there's nothing quite like hand tinted music ... ;-) Sorry, couldn't resist.

I love that Cabbage patch pic as well...

You should never resist when a good opportunity comes along. That is the sort of retort I would post.

Greetings

My first DSLR was a Kx so I don't have any experience with the previous generation Pentax DSLR's. I imagine though, when coming to the K5 from a 10D, the biggest upgrade you'd notice in your images is the ISO performance. It really increases the options/possibilities for low-light photography (the unprocessed pumpkin-patch shot above is at ISO 800 with no added noise reduction). You're able to increase the shutter and/or narrow the aperture at virtually no "cost" to image quality (to a point).

The quiet shutter and 7 fps is pretty amazing too. Oh yeah, and TAv mode... The features go on and on. If it doesn't hurt your pocketbook too much, I say take the leap!

I can't say enough about the DA40. I've never shot with the FA43, so can't persuade you one way or the other between the two, but the DA40 is almost too good to be true. If you've got the Kx, Kr or K5, it's unbeatable for the portability alone. There are times I bring out my K5 + DA40 when I know I wouldn't otherwise bring out my gear. It's still not necessarily "pocketable", but close to it and very discreet for travel, street shooting, etc.

The relatively slow aperture for a fixed focal in that range is no problem with the ISO performance nowadays - and it's superb straight from f2.8 (sharp corner to corner).

Just my 2 cents.

Here are a couple from a pumpkin patch with my family. I'd be interested to see what you think given they're quite heavily processed.
The processed scene looks like a movie set, which might or might not be your intent. Anyway, executed well! The extra brightness in the broad center works; I'd probably try that on the full color version.

Of course, there is not a single JPG from a raw file. It all depends on whether you chose Vivid, Neutral, or whatever, plus the adjustments on them offered by the K-5. You made that choice in the camera or in Pentax Digital Camera Utility.

Was that a picture of a castle fs999? Nice work. What focal length for the moth. Do use a macro flash?
Yes it is the Marlborough castle at Manderen (France) near the three borders.
For the butterfly it was the Tamron 90mm. On this photo I didn't use my flash with Ray-Flash ring adapter. I can't use my Dörr macro flash anymore (due to K5 changes...).
You can see all details in the description, when clicking on the photo . Thank you for your interest...
