Fantasy Bus Stop...

I tested a 60-250 today and this shot stood out. It's as sharp as any prime I have and as such is scary as hell (almost). It's handheld for 160th @ 180mm-F8. Not a great photograph but I was so shocked at how sharp it was I thought I'd upload it. My DA* 200 F/2.8 cannot get anywhere near this picture and I'm thinking of selling it and buying this lens to use as a 135-250 to augment the 50-135. Actually, at F/8 this lens is sharper in the middle all the way over the 50-135... hmm. The edge sharpness at F4 is abysmal though.

Yes there's a 'warning light'... it's that cold stare where he's waiting for you to blink and you're gone.. ;-)

Nice light (a reflector of some kind?)... ..looks like he's about to kill something on the floor ( my cat tries to kill anything that moves)

My cat is also black and almost impossible to photograph although sometimes I'd like to shoot him ;-)

Fantasy Bus Stop v2.

I thought I'd try a B&W take on this image:

Of course, there is not a single JPG from a raw file. It all depends on whether you chose Vivid, Neutral, or whatever, plus the adjustments on them offered by the K-5. You made that choice in the camera or in Pentax Digital Camera Utility.
I see what you're saying; that a converted RAW file is not the same as a jpeg right out of the camera.

The request was for me to post the original w/out any processing; that's all I meant by it but I appreciate the correction.

I actually prefer the B&W. I think the cropping also really helps, but the detail seems to jump out more in the B&W. Great job, especially for a quick snapshot. The K5 + 60-250 would be a dream... hope it works out for you to get one

Thanks Antifreez. I wasn't all that convinced about the lens until I saw that particular shot. For me, there's a little too many CA's and if it weren't for LR3 it might be a worse story. But as I said, that picture is way sharper than anything that's come out of my DA* 200 F/2.8 so it might be worth considering the lens as a telephoto zoom. That's ignoring the fact that by F8 it's also sharper at every FL than the 50-135.

I agree that the B&W of the bus seems to work much better - primarily because of the reflections in the glass I think

Colour makes B&W.

B&W or 'almost' monochrome allows you to amplify colours as B&W filters that would look insane if they were left as colour. You can play around with formal things in B&W and it's all unified. It either works as a form or not. Colour adds another dimension to work with but it also limits how unified something is or can be if left as colour.

I'm starting to realize that even lousy colour shots can look great as a monochrome.

An old chain hanging in the garden with the sun shining through leaves in the background. Shot with my Sigma 50mm f1.4!
