A long time ago (as in 30 something years ago). Kodak Instamatic, then an Olympus Trip '35' which was actually quite a good little camera. Then a Pentax MG followed by an ME Super. Then nothing at all for a very long time and no shutterbugging.
Moved into the digital age with a Panasonic Lumix FZ-3 which I liked enough to eventually upgrade to the FZ-7. Then again nothing and not much photo taking till I got re-inspired some months ago and started snapping in ernest with the Panasonic.
Now with my Pentax K5 with a combination of original 'M' & 'A' Pentax lenses and a few 2nd hand Auto sigmas and Pentax 'F' & 'DA'.

I had bought the K100SD late in the model run, and I held out for a while because for the money, the K-7 didn't give me the low-light results I wanted. I'm glad I did. When the K-5 came out, I held out a little longer for a price drop. I paid $200 more for it than the current $999 price, but I feel like I've gotten my money's worth for the three months or so of fun I've had with it. No regrets.

I suggest keeping it as a backup.
That's what I'm doing with my K100

Please could K200D to K7/K5 please comment on the handling and weight balance of the camera? I love my K200D and I will be keeping it, but would like an upgrade that feels at least as solid. My friends with Canon/Nikon all comment how well built my K200D is and being my first DSLR, it is an attribute I now consider essential.
I came from a K100SD (physically pretty comparable to the K200D), and I'm extremely happy with the feel of the K-5. I like the layout of the controls better, the menu is a big upgrade, and overall, it feels great in the hand. I'm not conscious of a significant weight difference between the two, and I haven't felt motivated to check the specs. Some people have complained about not having enough room on the grip for the right pinky finger, but I can just curl it under the bottom, and it feels pretty natural. If I wanted to, I could still put it on the camera. I actually am not conscious of where I usually put it.

To my hands, the K5 feels even more solid than the K200D. The K-5 is slightly smaller and weighs slightly more than the K200D.
+1about the feel.

Praktica IV > Konica Autoreflex T > Pentax MZ50 > Pentax *ist DS > Pentax K-5.
I loved the Konica, but that was probably influenced by being such a big step up from the Praktica with a f2.9 present lens (probably 1 element in 1 group?!) But nothing comes close to the K-5, as most on this forum would attest.
I still own the DS but it is on loan to a newbie who is hopefully learning something. Apart from low light stuff, it was hard to beat for what needed.

Before I bought my K-5 recently, it was a Canon G9, which has been my main camera for a few years, before that a small Canon IXUS 55 P&S and a Canon Powershot S110 P&S which wraps up my digital cameras. Before digital, I had a Pentax ZX-5n (still have it), a P30 (dad has it) and going way back an ME Super (still have it). So apart from my short Canon detour for a few years, it's been all Pentax. And I'm glad to be "back".

I currently use both K10 and K20 and have an istD converted to IR.

Now I have the K5 (and it is a thing of beauty!) I will be selling the IstD and converting the K20 to IR and have the K10 as backup untill the FF is released next year.

I t may seem odd to do it this way, but I have never been really happy with the K20's sensor output, much prefering the K10, but I think it will ideally lend itsself to IR pics. Plus it will be fairley future proofed.

I will be putting the istD on here in the new year sometime after the coffers are replenished after the xmass spend.

I am familiar with IR from my film days, but what do you mean by "converted"? Isn't IR done with filters like before? Please fill me in...

The sickness all started back in 1980...

Vivitar XV-1 > Canon AE-1 Program > Nikon F3hp > Sony DSC-D770 > Nikon D70 > Nikon F100 + Nikon D700 + Pentax K5

Still have (for now), and occasionally use, the AE-1P, F3hp and D70.

Use the F100 and D700 with a mix of legacy and new manual focus, and newer autofocus glass.

Use the K5 with some DA Limiteds.

K1000(1975)->Casio QV5700(2003)->Canon Powershot Pro1->K110D->K100D-Super->K20D(2009)->K-5(few weeks ago)

Honestly? I dearly loved my K20D (and kept it too) but I am just blown away by the K-5. The one small niggle I have with its form-factor (I liked the slightly larger K20D) is an insignificant issue versus the autofocus speed and accuracy as well as the absolute freedom the high ISO capabilities of this beauty gives you - shoot anywhere, anytime.

Best 700 Euros I ever spent - no exclusions!
