Any Sensor Prblms Noted?

Not to start a war, but a recent thread started about 12 hours ago at a different more general DP Review site, noted a problem with hard spots on the sensor, possibly between the sensor and AA filter. It generally shows up at F11 -F22 but some have noted it at more open apertures. Some concern it may be aggravated by sensor heat that could result from extended video use.

Let me stress I have had my K-5 about two weeks and have tested and NOT found the problem described in that thread. But others may want to check it out and confirm/debunk/examine and otherwise speculate about this issue.

As I understand it, direct links to this forum are not permitted so plz forgive. I'm not trying to start something, just trying to get a realistic perspective on any suspected problem

i have the exact same problem, at F11 i can see 2 spots on the sensor after focusin gon a totally well lit white screen. Kinda pisses me off, have the camera for 10 days now and i was totally happy with it till i saw this. These type of faults should not pass QC in my opinion.

What is a "hard spot"

The problem described can not be removed by normal cleaning methods like a dust spot or even an oily spot. Some who have taken a closer look report it seems to lie between the sensor and the AA filter, hence not accessible to the normal user.

The thread has plenty of examples provided by those affected. From what I've seen the examples posted by different people are pretty consistent in shape, size, location, etc etc which suggests to me something done during mechanical production rather than by a sloppy tech.

See this thread. Maybe mods should move that here and merge it in with this one.

Have either of you used the video function for extended periods? There was some hypothosizing on the other board about that possibly affecting the frequency or severity of the spots. I forget what the hypothosis was, but it was something to do with sensor heat generated when taking videos.

The OP for the above thread is the same OP for the thread I referred to. I looked to see if this issue had already been addressed in the K-5 forum which is where I expected it to be, but didn't look in the general DSLR forum.

I don't see that is has received as much discussion here as elsewhere but I think it an issue worth tracking. I don't want it to be blown out of proportion, but likewise I wouldn't want it ignored if serious.

I noticed one spot on m80's image before - btw, he takes brilliant panoramas. I think he was going to get his camera to the store and get it checked.
m80? any update?

cheers,

Yeah, here's a 100% crop of where my brand new K-5 sensor is 'marked' at f/29. It shows up at f/22, and very slightly at f/10.

I took pics at f40 f29 f22 f18 and found 2 spots all in the same spot about 7:O'Clock but I found them only at 55mm at 18mm and 32X could not see them. Oh well I look back at pictures I took and can not find them, only the ones on a white piece of paper. Now I now what black spots are!

I brought my K5 back to the shop last week.
Hope Pentax will come forward with a good solution and not
a half crippled K5 back on my plate.
