I did some more thorough testing of my K-5, #3835204 bought in Sweden on November 20th. It seems to be fine; there is one entirely inconsequential spot which is very likely to be regular dust; it refuses to disappear with some quick air cleaning and several runs of Dust Removal, but it sure looks like dust to me. I don't know. Voting "no".

Will this "stain" defect show up on the LCD screen? I'm looking at getting a k5 here pretty quick, but I was just wondering if I can take a picture while I'm still at the store and view it right then and there? Or would I have to buy it, take it home, test it, upload the photo to the computer, etc....?

S/N 3842569 - no stain(s)

Nice to see that my K-5 isn't able to show those artificial anti-aircraft tracer rounds in the sky areas of my images. Seems Lady Luck is in my corner this time .. so far.

Me too :(

Me too, not sure if I am too concerned at this stage - it is more annoying that when looking at the sensor there is an obvious 'smudge' causing this, like no one looks at the sensor as it goes by on the line...

I had a look back through my images (nearly 2000 so far) and was unable to see the line on any image, except some f11 out of focus ones I took today (which is how I saw the line and subsequently this thread!) The black dot though is extremely visible on a lot of images today and not on any prior to today so I am guesing that it is actually a spec of dust.

It's clearly visible on the LCD.

A nice string of pearls, in full center (a little on the bottom right). Only one tiny spec of dust elsewhere, though...

As it won't show below f/16, I'm not in a hurry to return the camera...

Stains on the Pentax K-5 Sensor

I got Stains on my K-5 Sensor in different sizes...
Bought in Germany on November 16.
Serial: 38374xx
The big one is visible from F-Stop 7.1...
The quality control of Pentax's just a shame.

I just ordered a K5 from Amazon and did an f22 test with a DA35 2.8 macro. Yes I found the stains. I immediately contacted Amazon to return my camera. The serial number is #3890279. I love the camera and the lens is simply outstanding. I guess I'll wait to see what Pentax does and how soon the problem is corrected.

Ok, did the high f-stop test on my replacement K-5 body using multiple lenses and focal lengths. I have an imperfection [one] that shows-up clearly at f/22 as a tiny dark spot -- but only slightly at f/16 -- when the whole frame is shrunk down for internet / on-screen viewing. I have not done a dry or wet clean of the sensor [nor do I want to of a brand new body], so this may just be on the surface; so reserve judgement until then.

This is it when a 100% crop is taken [ @ f/22 -- @ f/16 it is 1/2 the darkness ]. I don't know if people are zooming in to 200% or 400% in what they are posting & sharing here, but my imperfection seems quite mild to others if they are not :

holding pattern...
It will be corrected. It's just a question of when and how. I, too, am in a holding pattern, but a K-5 is almost certainly in my future. Except for this glitch, it seems like a great camera.

3836417.. Clean on a clear sky at f22 save for one spot on the edge which I would nearly bet the camera is plain old sensor dust. That is, after I cleaned my computer screen, then my glasses. One would be surprised how many photo aberrations disappear when you do that .. Purchased 10/28 from Provantage, delivered 11/4.

I have to change my vote...

The SOP did not show at F11 100%crop but did show at F16 and F22.
Luckily, Amazon agreed to issue a full refund which I intend to use towards the purchase of new K-5. Of course since this is an internet buy there is no way to tell if these problems will show up with the new camera so,may be I should just wait until after Pentax resolves these issues.
