I have what typically looked like dust spots on the sensor, but a wet cleaning did not remove any of them. I believe they are on the AA filter like someone else suggested.

Yep: 3889359

That's cropped (to 700x875 pixels) of course but it seems like these things are pretty consistently located near the center of the frame.

I am starting to think that getting a replacement body from a retailer would give someone a 50/50 shot (at best) of getting rid of the "stain" as the number of bodies affected seems to be pretty high and not isolated to a particular set of serial numbers. Short of being able to walk into a B&M store and check it yourself ahead of time, it seems like a crap shoot at the moment.

Yeap, loads of them. I think i even had focus issues thanks to them, but maybe that doesn't make sense, someone smarter should elaborate, if it's possible to have focus issues thanks to these stains we're having.

Doesn't it just look nifty??

S/N: 3822724 (In service atm)

If this doesn't get fixed, will demand my money back, and i will jump to the "N" boat.

(lol, that las thing is a clear overstatement, i believe in Pentax, and always will)

Definitely not with Phase AF, and I would guess it's highly unlikely to affect contrast AF as well.

382xxxx through 3888xxxx... this is over 60000 units...

The good news is that K5 sales are great... the bad news - there will be no recall (most likely)... too many units made and sold... the same as with SDM...

Pentax was certainly aware of the problem... but somebody judged it acceptable since most users won't notice it anyways... They still don't realize that most DSLR users use their cameras to shoot test charts more than anything else...
