pentax customer support (u.s.) even had the nerve to blame me for not finding out about the spots until after the 30d return period with my on-line retailer .
Well if you will ignore all their informative emails

This is the email I received today from Pentax.....
Thank you for contacting Pentax.

Pentax Japan is fully aware of this situation and is diligently investigating the cause of these stains in some K-5 cameras. You may be assured that your K-5 is covered under the 1-year warranty,

If you purchased your K-5 from a camera shop in your area you may want to consider contacting the dealer to see if they will exchange the K-5 for you. If you purchased the camera from a Pentax online dealer, and until we find out which batch(es) are affected by the stains, we recommend keeping the camera and not exchanging them for another unit. Once we fully understand the origin of the stains and how to deal with them we will be encouraging affected K-5 owners to send in their cameras for warranty repair.

Again, not all K-5 cameras are affected by this issue. The K-5 review page on the Enticing the Light Web site has excellent information on how to distinguish between dust on the sensor and an actual sensor “stain”. It also has a very good assessment of the actual effect of the stain on images. We encourage you to visit this webpage for this information:

Review – Pentax K-5 | Enticing the Light

Oh dear, what a horrible looking pic! I'd wash that brown-stained underwear asap if I were you.

No wonder I cant find a K5 body. Its not from high demand but everyone wanting a replacement for stains in their sensors. You guys are keeping the high demand price up..
I might wait a few months before going to the US and get one then. Might even try it before it leaves the shop and check for spots befor I pay.
