I think mine could be "touched". Serial: 3835xxx
I have only taken 11 pictures, I think the probability to have
dust on sensor is very little.

Pictures are taken at f/22 with a Tamron 17-50

What's your oppinion?

K5 sensor stains

My K5 s/n is 3820xxx and thankfully does not appear to have any stains on the sensor. It was purchased from McBain Camera in Edmonton, Canada two weeks ago.

My K5 has stains on it S/N 3871xxx...it appears as a series of dots nearly right in the centre of the sensor.
I expect Pentax to come up with a solution and make it right.

I've been in contact with my local Pentax distributor, and their suggestion is to hold on to the unit until a firm solution is announced. Swapping the unit at this moment doesn't guarantee I will get a good one.

In the meantime, I'm not really bothered with it. The dots are only visible beyond f/16 (on my unit anyway), and only against a plain, bright background.
I was looking for the stains at f/32 against the usual mixed-bag of background detail typical of a real-world shot - and I couldn't see it, even though I knew the stains were "supposed" to be there.

That means it doesn't show up in 99% of my photography. I'm still using the camera every day without any worries...

Enjoy your K-5

The S/N of my K-5 is 3885582 and I have not found any stains yet. Last weekend I was out over three hours in -19°C without problem. The EXIF of last of the over 100 taken pictures showed camera temperature -11°C. I have a feeling that K-5 will become my longtime companion.

Yesterday the local camera store confirmed that my stains couldn't be removed by sensor cleaning. They have sent it to Pentax for repair/replacement. Luckily they promised that i will have a camera during christmas, be it a Pentax or Canon or Nikon or something else.

s/n 3858321 affected.

pentax customer support (u.s.) even had the nerve to blame me for not finding out about the spots until after the 30d return period with my on-line retailer .

I am curious why they would lay blame on you. I had two relatively quick and painless discussions with two different Pentax customer service reps myself about my stained sensor.

I bought from provantage.com and was also outside of their stated 30 day return window. The Pentax reps stated provantage could get in touch with their local sales rep to initiate an RMA, and I had a new camera 5 business days later. What retailer are you dealing with that is stone-walling the return out of curiosity?
