K5d + AF360 wireless flash

Hi folks

Could someone out there run a little test please? I just want to make sure I am not doing anything wrong.

I just tried using my AF360 wirelessly on my K5 and it won't sync up. It works fine on my K20d, but with the EXACT same settings on my K5 it fires weakly but won't sync up.

Settings are:

On flash:
Wireless, slave, iso 100, F8

Both Cameras:
Av, iso 100, f8, flash popped up, flash in wireless mode, wireless mode set as master...

When switching from the K20d to the K5 I don't change anything on the flash.

(Yes, I know my mirror is dirty... I use it as whiteboard to remind me not to forget things for work)

Thanks folks!

Pat

Make sure that the camera and flash are set to the same channel (I don't have a 360 so you'll need to figure out how to do that).... your manual will state how.

Cheers.

You were pretty close!!!!

My flash was on channel 1

When I checked my camera LCD it indicated channel 1...

But that wasn't working properly so I changed the flash to channel 2, mounted the flash to sync the channel with the camera and voila it worked. I switch them both back to channel 1 and now they work fine.

Not sure if it's user error (I did check both the flash and camera were on channel 1 several times!) or if it's a tiny firmware bug.

Thanks for your help!

Pat

Fairly common actually.... at least I remember having the same issue with my old K10d and a 540 unit... took me a while to figure out what was going one... and the fact that I didn't know sh@t about wireless flashing didn't help much either...

Anyways, I'm glad it got resolved...

Well thats interesting!!!

I just tried to use the flash off camera and it's doing it again... note that I haven't touched anything since it was working yesterday. I turned off the camera and flash after this thread last night and haven't touched them since. I turned them back on this morning and the same problem is back.

I can get the flash working wirelessly again by switching to another channel and re-syncing with the camera hotshoe.

Is anyone out there able to duplicate this problem?

Given all the "flash issues" it seems pretty obvious that the guy who coded the flash section for the new camera was spending too much time on either on facebook or cartoon porn websites..

That said, I will only be able to test mine with a 540 unit on Saturday... Lots of testing to do on Saturday actually...

B.t.w. I never even considered the AF360 over the AF540 as there's no way to turn off the power saving option... very annoying in wireless mode...

Well, I have to say I didn't notice any change in behavior between my K7 and my K5 when using my Sigma 530 super...

When faced with so much flash horror stories, I checked again, and so far I have no problems with bounced or wireless flash...
Maybe the Sigmas are immune to the K5 syndrome? So far, I've only seen reports from 360, 540 and Metz users...

I have similar problems with my K5 plus fgz540. Sometimes OK sometimes not, side by side with my K7 that does work

Just tried mine with an AF540.... Got it sync-ed right away... didn't even have to remember how to change channels, it just worked...

P.S. i'm in-love with the K5+DA40 combo....

I have tried my Metz 48 AF-1 in wireless connection today for the first time. the flash which works fine on the hotshoe did not work well as wireless. It fired but it gave inconsistent results each time I tried it without changing the settings. I believe Pentax needs lot to do for flash utilisation in the next firmware...
