Sensor Cleaning (Dust Removal)

Hi

I am used to the K10D Sensor Cleaner being distinctively "noisy" and can feel the vibration as the Sensor Cleaner engages.

With the K5, when I activate this feature, an icon appears to indicate Dust removal, but I hear and feel nothing. Is that correct?

I hope that it's correct as mine is the same....

I saw a report somewhere on the web (so it must be true ) that the K5 uses an ultrasonic dust removal system.

You can hear the dust removal system working by putting your ear to the camera. Yes, it's almost that silent - which the K10D certainly wasn't When turning the camera on you should hear a quick "burst" with a high pitched sound.

Unless my camera isn't broken, I assume that is the sound of the sensor being cleaned.

It is correct, it is ultrasonic and therefore basically silent this time around. Not like my K100D Super, which sounded like someone taking a jackhammer to the camera every time you used its dust removal

The K-7 , K-r are ultrasonic too - but you can hear them working (high-pitched sound - not the K10/K20 jack hammer). With the K-5 I cant hear a thing. Is this normal?

If you want to hear it clearly, take the lens off the camera and put the camera opening up to your ear, then turn it on. If your hearing is good in the upper range, you will hear very distinct high pitched chirp.

Whatever it is ....it is working great on my K5. With this drought here, we have a billion tons of dust and my sensor is staying nice and clean!
Regards!
