Question on K-5 Order

I'm wanting to order the K-5 today on Amazon (the kit that is shipped and sold by Amazon). Has anyone received a K-5 from a very recent shipment (either on Amazon or elsewhere) without a stain issue? I live in a very remote area of Colorado, and don't have any dealers within a 2.5 hour drive, so purchasing online is much preferred. This also makes getting a K-5 without the stains pretty valuable as well.

It seems like the problem is slowly tapering off. I have no problem waiting a couple weeks or after the holiday to order. The prices may even be lower then... who knows.

I just exchanged for a new K-5 with Amazon and received the new one on Dec 10. Its perfect!
Serial# 3909188 versus the returned unit 3823875 from Oct 15.

Got serial number 3900621 as an exchange for 3841604; this one (390xxxx) is perfect; I have asked my dealer to test it (and provided it with the test procedure) before sending it to me - I have a good dealer - unfortunately for you it is located in France

This is reassuring info. The first thing I plan on doing tomorrow when the camera arrives is a) charge the battery, and then b) check for the stain. I spoke with Amazon today and their replacement policy is really phenomenal. If I have an issue, I call customer support and they will overnight another camera as soon as the problem is reported (I have to mail the original back, of course )

Really going to be a long day at work tomorrow, waiting for those boxes to arrive!

Where I live, the Pentax distributor has committed to do a final filter to ensure they only ship K-5 units without the stain problem to end customers.

It may not be a perfect check since some of the stains are not very visible even at f/22, but I think that should take care of most of the issues for new users.

Newegg is being good about this issue. I just ordered my K-5 yesterday from them (they had a promotion where you get a free sling bag and a $100 gift card to Newegg, good deal) and chatted with customer service beforehand to make sure. They said they would replace or repair the affected camera if it has this issue. The replacement is with a new camera as well, not a fixed one. So if you are looking for a good reseller, Newegg might be a nice choice.

I ordered my K-5 from Amazon back in November. Serial number starts with 3889, and there are no spots on the sensor.
