got a new K-5 body today ...wahoo !!

I found that a bunch of my old lenses work great on the K-5 so my decision to buy a K-5 instead of the Nikon D7000 or the Canon was made for me.... the battery is in the charger now and I've got all day tomorrow to read the manual.
Life is good !!

Who Reads Manuals anymore?

Do yourself a favor and get a couple extra batteries and one of those third party wall hung chargers. Then get the grip for the camera and of course you won't be able to live without the limited primes, both flavors, FA and DA...

Any kidding aside,
Welcome to the club!

That initial wait is painful, Isn't it? I actually use to have a K7 so my batteries were ready to go when I unpacked the K5.

This is why I love the Pentax cameras which use AA batteries - you can walk out of the shop with your new toy and start shooting straight away!

Of course, that doesn't mean I don't still lust after a K-5.

If that doesn't send every 5 year old in the world screaming in terror, I don't know what will... From the look of his eyes, Santa has had a little too much Christmas 'Cheer'.

I've managed to plow through most of the manual, honest ! I did.
I found a one liner about using a setting for the P setting that covers all the older lenses I have, that's a bit of a bonus. I'm also getting to know the camera with the Tv and Av settings and next I'll try the M setting with the Tak's ( I found an extra screw adapter in my drawer) .
Played around some with the RAW setting but I need to spend some more time with the software to get the full benefit of it. To be honest, the RAW files looked fine to me...

It's quite the unit, does everything a person like myself could ever need....sometimes when you least expect it to...
(somehow I got it into mirror lockup by mistake, clumsy paws I guess. . )
