Well watts the feeling of the new flagship of Pentax K5? I'm on my 3rd body for little things, like string of pearls on the sensor, no sound, LCD light went out and the rear wheel was bad on the first copy. Now the 4th copy is to be shipped this week, lets all cross our fingures for this one.
I dam well like the camera, the way it feels in my hand as it balances so well with all the glass I have. And the pictures are outstanding with all my glass but for one.
There is more features on this thing that it blows my mind. I hope that all of you folks out their have good luck with yours.

Since the lens is wide open at f1.8 I highly doubt it's dust. In fact, testing against a clear sky at f22, revealed none of this. This is the only situation I've seen this in so for right now (the Christmas tree will be put away in about a week), I'm going to ride the warranty period a little while or at least until after the new year and see if anything else pops up. I've had the camera over a month when I discovered this (Nov 4 delivery).

Beyond that, I'm very pleased with the camera.

I don't know what lens you used but I have a sigma that can focus so close that it can pick up dust on the filter in front of the lens.

I like the fact that it looks so much like a K-7 that my wife has not taken a second look at it.

FA77mm f1.8 Limited. No filters are ever used on my limited lenses. Since the lens was focused at the minimum distance however, I'll have to check and see if it needs to be cleaned There May be a reason I'd never noticed a sensor problem before then, because I don't have one. Reports from others state that you can actually see the problem on the LCD of the camera. Not so here.

Good Things ??
Apart from the other 2 camps are trembling in fears forcing their nonsense
(pro, semi-pro, medium-pro , pro-pro) dslr price down just to compete with
this(pentax K-5) what they called unheard toy(thingy). And this K-5 capabilities
are now becoming a some kinda epidemic outbreak affecting many individuals from
the other camps and are starting to notice that there is really a thingy(lol)
that can blow their ever beloved pro-pro camera with K-5 true price/performance scheme.

K-5 is a real K-7-on-steroid(not viagra) plus a more enhanced focusing on image quality. I know most of upgraders had been pleased being able to shine at most low ambients and a more dampened shutter than its predecessor.
... just to name a few good things about K-5.

If you are talking about the three spots we can see in the unfocused lights, then I'd bet they are located on the front lens : you can see them repeated in many unfocused lights, always at the same location...

Jeff I have the same type of artifact in the same type of situation (unfocused christmas lights) with my K20D and the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8. I was getting an interesting effect looking thru the viewfinder on the unfocused lights (rayed halos on the lights) so I took a few shots. Unfortunately no rayed halos but similar artifacts to what you've got. Unfortunately I'm at work but I'll dig them up tonite when I get home. Don't think it's sensor related because same patterns repeat themselves throughout the shot.

That's probably my favourite point too. Thanks to the K-5 and K-7 sharing the same look my gf didn't notice that I spent quite a lot of money on a new camera.

Well, coming from the k-x I suppose I'll develop a taste to the added controls (although the k-x design is outstanding), also less shutter noise is nice. Jury is still out with the AF which was supposed to be better (the LV one is good and much faster, but the sensor based / VF variety probably needs the FW update to actually work the way it should).

edit: Found them: Much busier than yours, both rods and dots. Taken with a K20D and Tamron 28-75. And it wasn't lights but light reflected off shiny balls. But similar to yours in that it was completely un focused and the patterns show only on the specular highlights. Particulars: 1/1000 sec, f/2.8 ISO 200.
