I think there are two reasons the K-5 looks worse than the k100 in this test

The main reason the K100D is sharper is because it has much lower resolution on the sensor. The camera shake was always there but a 6 Mp sensor doesn't resolve it as clearly as a 16 Mp sensor does. With modern, high resolution sensors, camera motion has to be managed even more carefully than before to get photos that look crisp at 1:1.

The second reason is that the K-5 likely has a much faster mirror mechanism since it can shoot 7 fps compared to 2.8 for the k100. The faster the mirror moves the more it is going to shake the camera.

At the end of the day, and this was just as true 30 years ago, mirror lockup is there for a reason and even on a good tripod it should be used if maximum sharpness is what you want.
