I'm not sure what some posters are talking about - my K-5 now focuses in virtually no light (e.g. with the lights off, with light only seeping in from the next room through the doorway)! Focus appears better on all my lenses. Note that only one of my lenses is SDM - the DA*50-135. It's plainly focusing using only the light from the AF assist beam - something it had trouble with before.

It will be great if they make other improvements in the future, but this (the AF) is probably the most important fix they could have made right now.
My K-5 has always focused perfectly in virtual darkness, so long as the AF-assist light comes on. In fact, I don't think I've had an out-of-focus shot if the AF-assist light comes on. The issue seems to be in the light range above the level which triggers the AF-assist light, but below 3-4EV. It is in this range where the K-5 will quickly lock, just not properly (FF).

Hmmm interesting. there is a poster, kharju over on the "other" forum that is reporting he has no FF problems any more with the new firmware. (Yes, i read the reports above that said it did not help)

Installed the new firmware a short while ago. I have had a quick mess about with the flash and encouragingly I got decent exposure with tilting the flash up or to the side. Let's hope it stays that way.
Regarding the focus issue, I never seemed to have had any problems or maybe I am not good enough to notice.
Cheers.

The focus assist lamp certainly comes on sooner than before. It had to be nearly pitch black previously, now it comes on in even half decent light. Now they need to make it's range longer. It's just not bright enough.

Hmmm... I seem to get good auto flash exposure with direct flash, or with the flash bounced to the side or behind me. But with the flash point straight ahead and angle any where between 30º and straight up, it overexposes.

And for the LOVE OF GOD, please give us manual video controls!!!!!

Didn't help me with the low light tungsten focus issue. Take picture under that type of light often. How unfortunate.

Looks like Pentax had to tick off their todo list first, i.e. to complete postponed features: 20 frame buffer and SDXC.

Let's hope they now have more resources to do the imprtant stuff: Fix their bugs...
