Firmware v1.02

Edit- official firmware announced: https://www.pentaxforums.com/Pentax-K-5/K-r/645D-Firmware-Updates-Officially-Released

Hello,
The firmware v1.02 is available for download (leaked, nothing official yet):
https://network.pentax.eu/ (can't give a direct link, sorry; you'll also need to register)
Go to Explorer/Digital SLR/K-5.

I have no idea what it does, though... FF sensor? 645D viewfinder? We'll see

You know what, this must be the linked the official retailer told me about but do not want to give it to me. Just told me some details. I posted about it in the news and rumors section. Hope somebody try it now. =)

I'd buy the K-5 right now if your guesses were true. Ha, ha! I get a bang out of it though...

Wieland (blende8 here and at German DFN) tried the firmware.

For him, it brought no change to the tungsten/low light front focus or indirect flash problem.

I wonder why Pentax did not re-prioritize the release of the firmware to more aggressively address the open issues. Don't they know how serious the situation is they are in?

That's a big fat disappointment for me. I am going to give my K20 and K200 big hugs before I turn in for tonight. We're probably going to be bosom buddies for a loooong time more.

I did the same with my K10D and K20D.

I refuse to lay down big bucks on a camera that can't focus properly in tungsten light. The technology is there to get this right.

Let's see an official release and see what it really does before condemning it based on ONE (1) person trying a Pre-release. Hug your K20d's all you like, I agree they are wonderful machines but the K5 is light years ahead of it. No pearls on mine, AF in tungsten is fine, and I've not seen any problems with bounce flash. My ONE complaint on an exposure front is the camera actually tends to Over expose IMO. Easily fixed with a -1 or so EV compensation.

I distinctly recall people complaining about tungsten light focus with the K100D and K20D, as well as various cameras from Canon and Nikon...

I am sooooo trying to make a decision on a camera to buy that can do good video... I've been SO happy with the K-x and it's in-body image stabilization in this regard and if this firmware offers MANUAL CONTROL for video shooting, I will dump my idea about buying a GH2 and buy the K-5 instead! Oh please oh please oh please!

I gave the new firmware a try, and there's still no full manual control.

Camera does seem to boot up faster though. On 1.01 it would take a second or 2 before I could see the display come up. On 1.02 it shows up almost instantly.

Justed tested this 1.02 version for my PTTL-flash issue with TUMAX. Unfortunately the "strobing"ïssue is still there....
