Have the same stain/dust and it starts with f/16 and all the way up.
I sent my K5 back to Amazon tomorrow.

It's just an ordinary mole - nothing to worry about.

Unless it has a concentric ring shape to it its just dust and not the stain. Could easily be introduced by the first time you put a lens on.

Looks definitely stain to me. Can we see same spot at F8 or 5.6?

shots at 5.6, 8.0, 16 and 22

I used my rocket blower on the sensor to remove any possible dust and also the dust removal feature on the cam. no effect. Looks like a stain to me. it's a shame that is my 3rd cam with the issue.

The spot is in the lower right frame.

this does not at all look like the K-5 stain, there is NO concentric circle pattern inside it. Plus there is only one of them, the stain issue is a string of concentrically ringed and more in focus objects...

Well, even if it isn't a "stain" per say it's still a quality control issue with the sensor - this shouldn't be here with a brand new cam and it isn't just "dust", it's too profound.

I find highly doubtful i introduced this with a couple seconds of exposure to the air when i put the lens on to test and it not being removed after using my rocket blower.

I think you are correct. Your stain looks pretty much the same as the stains shown in Falk's thread, and using the information therein, you can do the math yourself.

Myself I think it’s easier to judge stains if manually set to closest focus. The “stain” gets sort of sharper then, and the distinct character of a stain shows up better. Also set ISO to 100. It doesn’t matter if shutter time is several seconds.

Set your ISO to 80 or 100, put it on a tripod and shoot the f/22 photos again. You're using a very high ISO for test shots and the noise/graininess is making it very hard to make out any detail in the spot, so we can't tell what it really looks like.

i'm not going to waste any more time. it obviously shouldn't be there so i am sending it back. i was hoping for 3rd times the charm.

Highly disappointed with Pentax. You can make a great cam with a great sensor but please don't provide it to consumers with quality control issues.

Looks like dust

Every DSLR under the sun has dust on its sensor at f22.
I have even had a Nikon D300s with dust in the viewfinder!
Don't sweat fella, within a couple of days any DSLR will show dust at f22.

And the 4th camera you get will also have dust on it. Just like the 3rd camera.
