Jumping Ship

I have been a Canonite since the early 80's, maybe before that. Around the time the A1 35mm was new. I was recently looking to update my 50D to the 7D. I have tried out the different models that were in my budget range, I came across this thing called a Pentax K5 and found myself not wanting to put it down. It had a DA 18-135mm attached to it and I knew right there and then I was going to own it. Yes, I read about all the sensor issues and the no auto focus in video mode. But that is no concern to me, I like to take photos, and this DSLR fits perfectly in my hands. Ordered and should have the Camera and a DA 18-135mm lens, (kit lens here in Japan), in a couple of days.

Congratulations! I was introduced to the wonderful world of Pentax about 8 months ago. It's a wonderful one.

Welcome to the club. it's a pretty amazing setup to start (soon the dreaded LBA will kick in and you'll want all the limited primes )
At times in the film world I shot Canon and Nikon (really wish I'd kept that first Nikon setup the lenses would work on my K7) but kept coming back to Pentax
Enjoy the purchase

(funnily enough i'm used to seeing that headline and seeing the opposite someone trying to explain the reason for going canikon....nice to see it's working both ways)

Welcome!

I, too, held a Pentax for the first time in Japan. In central Yokosuka, if memory serves, while serving with what was then CINCPACFLT. Very fortunate to get TDY to Japan. My PJ friends, who shot with Nikon and Leica, all recommended Pentax for the new guy. A tip of the white hat to them!

Yes, I've heard about the problem, I'm wondering, since most AF sensors use vertical line contrasts, if giving enough light and you turned the camera 90 degrees to focus and then back to take the shot if that might help. Eleven AF points right? That is not a lot. I'm talking from experience I've had with the other brands. I have had no experience with the K5 yet.
