Wonder what got his panties in a bunch... I didn't find my comment particularly offensive.

Jeff, thank you for the info about the Receipt being needed. I believe that is the first time I have read that on these numerous discussions about this issue. How in the world would consumers know this? Certainly not from Pentax's written statement (in any posted language).

HoundTooth, I did not find your comment offensive either. Thank you for your participation.

Yes, I sent a customer service request to ask for the timeline, and this is what they told me:

Name : GREGORY
Customer Account # : MIXXXXX
Store Tag No :
CRIS WorkOrder No : WOXXXXXX
Submitter's Message : A request for a replacement unit has been made. The approximate turn around time is 2-4 weeks from the date of receipt, 01-27-11. Once the replacement unit has been received please allow 1-2 business before shipping to you.

Thank you for your patience.

My camera is there too. They received it on 1/25. I spoke with customer service yesterday and they told me they were waiting shipment from Pentax. That they get a shipment once a week, on Tuesdays. They fill with available quantities on first in first out basis. I really really miss my camera. Shooting with my K20D which works fine, but I am now spoiled.

Same type of info on mine....

....can't wait to get the K-5 back again. Thinking of calling tomorrow to see if I pay for faster shipping rather than wait 4 - 5 business days (assuming they haven't shipped already).

Me too! New serial number is 3982792. Since it took a week to get there, I'm guessing I might have it back next Tuesday/Wednesday.

Pentax Canada has had my camera a month now... when I emailed them this week I got a form reply saying they "hope to have everything sorted by the end of next week"...

Wonderful... 6-7 weeks for an exchange...

Here in Finland the company that handles repairs for Pentax predicted a one week turnaround for the sensor stain replacement (the seller put me in touch with them directly) - doesn't sound that bad, actually. I'm still waiting to send mine in for the stain in case there might be another round-trip for the low / tungsten light AF issue (FW update seems the likely fix, though).

There is a certain symmetry though, don't you think?
The early adopters get to deal with all the warts, the early replacers get to deal with the shortage of product caused by the mad rush of early adopters sending their cameras back.
If I had a camera with stains, I would wait until the hoopla dies down, then send it in.

I wish I could do that, but I need my K5 for some upcoming travel... it's THE reason I bought the darn thing in the first place.
