Max. video recording time?

Could someone please verify that with an SDXC card (please name the card + specs) the 25 min can be recorded in one single movie?

That might be but formally its wrong, because this info was mentioned for the Pentax 645 D! So maybe once we can use SDXC cards with 2 TB.

I own a SanDisk 64GB SDXC card, and 25 min is the limit. You can verify yourself even without an SDXC. Set the movie quality to VGA/25 and 1*, which is the lowest quality possible, and try with your 8 GB SDHC cards. You'll see that 25 minutes is the maximum time possible, even if the card can hold more than 25 minutes.

Sorry as I red my post again I didn´t mention that I was focusing on FullHD *** Mode. With this question I was focusing more on the 4 GB filesize limit of the camera itself (Pentax specs!). Since they allow now SDXC cards the 4 GB filesize limit should be gone. If this restriction isn´t somehow made by the camerasystem - which I don´t know. So can you record 25 min in FullHD *** Mode with this SDXC card? I would buy then an SDXC card. Am I correct you have the Sandisk Ultra SDXC 64 GB class 4 card with "15 MB/s"?

So fill the buffer with large hi-iso files and time them to see what is real-live writespeed in the K-5. I know that max 15mb/s is stated, but is it true.

One more time, i repeat :
Video file size is limited by the file system ! All cameras use FAT32 file system, there is a 4Gb file limitation with it.
You can have a 128 Gb SDXC card, if you use FAT32 with it, you wil have a 4GB file limit.

But it would be a good test.

I have done 16 mins of video recording, starting with a pre-warmed camera, and didn't get any sensor spots forming.

Well basicly it is what I use sometimes for video. A fieldmonitor.

There is the problem of HDMI output with videomode. It is in VGA. The problem you can see in this video is to overcome and change the setting of the fieldmonitor to 4/3 and then I have black basr to the left and right and use it as a 5.6 inch monitor.

The sensor of the K-5 at least doesn't get as heated as with the K-7, but no test on how that is in warm environment or with really long exposure. No problem with it taking 25 minutes (720p at one star) for 3 times.

Are you saying the HDMI output from a K5 is only 640x480 (VGA) i.e. the only way to get a 1080P (HD) video out of a K5 is to copy the mpeg file from the SD card?

Just during recording, because when you play a recorded file you do get FullHD output. During recording VGA and the actual picturesize (black bars left, right, top and bottom) is 640 x 360 pixels.

I have been reading this thread with interest, I have just bought a rode stereo mic to record our local open mic sessions and some surfing footage. All of this I want to do in high definition. Two things I need to be sure of can I record 4 gigs stop for a minute or so then record an other 4 gigs. I have an 8 gig Sandisc extreme 30ms and A 2 gig one as well, would a 32 gig class 10 Sandisc be my best option for recording video?

I experienced the same issue (limited movie record time) with my K-5. Here is the reply I got from Pentax...

Thank you for contacting PENTAX. The limit for recording a video clip on the K-5 is 4GB. This means that when the movie file size reaches 4GB, which is about the length you describe in HD 720p 30fps recording mode, the camera must stop recording and then be restarted. If you want to record longer video clips, up to 25 minutes maximum, you must lower the movie quality setting in the K-5's Rec. Mode menu. Here are approximate recording times in move mode on the K-5 by quality settings:

There's one question left on the 4GB file limit, though: Why can't the camera simply start recording to another file once the 4GB limit is reached, so that, provided one has a large enough card, recording up to 25 minutes is possible even in FullHD?

It's a simple case of closing one file and opening a new, then continue to stream video data into it. That can't be so hard.
