Today there was a post on a German discussion forum.
This user talked to the main pentax authorized repair shop.
Apparently they have got the new firmware for the K-r (and I guess K-5 too) which solves the FF issue. According to them, it definitelý solves the FF issue and will be available to the public in 2 weeks.

If this is true, it's GREAT news.

Thank you for the info, janni80k, I took a look at the thread. I'll digest it with an optimistic grain of salt.
If a firmware fix is indeed possible, then it would be great news and I would stand corrected in my previous post. Lets hope this works out. Nevertheless, I will wait at least two to three months before considering the K-5.
From all that I have read, I wonder if it ever will be possible for Pentax/Hoya (and all the other mfg's) to release a mature DSLR product within their respective development cycles. Being a late adopter seems the way to go.

On a more positive note: One particular aspect of the K-5 is that it is almost identical to the K-7; all my accessories will be compatible with the K-5. That is a big plus in my book, adding reason to stay within the system. Let's see how this saga turns out...

That is (if a reality) good news. I have a late production K5 without the stain -- I very much enjoy the K5 and the photos it takes. I know the quirks of this camera and my nikon camera -- its like everything else -- if you are wanting perfection you will always be wanting.
