Thoughts on if/when the K5 price may drop?...

I'm sure this has been brought up time and time again, but I don't re a recent thread asking the question so... Assuming that at some point the K5 may come down in price, when would we anticipate that to be?
thx

When demand eases up. Demand is high right now because so many people are exchanging their stained K-5's for new ones, and those that waited until the stain issue was resolved are starting to buy, because we know now the latest shipments to retailers are stain free. I can see the price staying high for quite some time.

I agree with Greg. I wouldn't expect any major drops for several months.

I'm afraid I agree also. Beyond what they've said, I'm seeing a lot of interest coming from devotees of other brands, which hasn't happend with any previous models. The expanded ISO isn't a realy big deal, but the expanded DR range is a game-changer. I suspect Pentax will have trouble keeping up with the demand for some time.
The K5 may well be the best DSLR on the market now. Good for Pentax. Bad for me and others waiting for the price to drop.
It may take a year.

Actually, another factor may be that there are no D7000's to be found, so there may be some people that were thinking about D7000, can't get one, so took a look at the K-5 because of all the positive reviews. I'm not saying there are a ton of people in this bucket, but this would contribute to keeping pressure on demand.

Thx for all of the thoughts. Pretty one sided in the belief that it will be a while. I hope you're all incorrect, but I'm guessing that you're all spot-on. Bummer...
thx

Let's do a calculation (using Adorama prices):
The K-7 was being sold from 7/2010
Started at $1299.99 and currently $868.88
(difference of 431.11 over 1 year 7 months)
Means it loses around $0.75 a day

The K5 started selling from 11/2010
Started at $1599.99 and currently $1468.00
(difference of $131.95 over 3 months)
Means it loses around $1.38 a day.

So in around 5 months, the K-5 might be between $1200 and $1350.

You have to weigh the "projected" savings against the photo opportunities that will occur between now and when the price may be lower. I have a couple of significant indoor sports events to shoot in the next 2 months. I've shot them in previous years with my K200D and it has been challenging. I received my K-5 last week and I know it will be a lot easier to get good shots this year. This camera seems ideal for weak lighting indoor action shots. On the other hand if my major shoots were outside I would have waited. So far I'm quite impressed with the K-5 and it's abilities.

Well, if you read about the poor take up on this camera in Japan, and couple that with the terrible QC issues that keep rearing their head, then I would expect that we'll see a price drop sooner than later. Just look at the recent poll on K-5 problems that was closed for some apparent reason pn this Forum in the last few hours: Only 41% of people who own the K-5 and took the poll have been completely happy with the unit, whereas the remaining 59% have one or more problems, most resulting in return of the body for exchange and/or repair. It's a shame the poll was closed. Probably due to either trepidation by the site owner that Pentax/Hoya would be seriously unhappy with the poll and pull sponsorship dollars, and, or the fanboys complained about the unfairness of the poll. That being said, the poll was skewed for those experiencing a problem with their K-5. Regardless, it was additional information for those with an interest in Pentax. Cheers. Don

Yep, I bought the K-5 in early December so I'd have it for the holiday shooting and basketball. Man, was that a good decision!

I don't think i'm waiting much longer. the amount of savings projected for waiting isn't that great compared to being able to take advantage of superior high iso for a new project. plus there are reports from folks buying now who aren't encountering any problems at all.
plus an intriguing report of a post on a German forum that there is an impending firmware fix for the focusing within 2 weeks.

How long did the K-7 take to take a dip in price since launched?
