New K5 and lens

I just got my new K5 and also received my first lens which is a Pentax A 35-105
zoom. I got the camera from B&H and the lens from Keh.
The lens was rated ex+ and looks brand new. I am switching from a Canon 5D and several L lenses. I retired from shooting weddings part time and wanted a lightweight outfit and really like the build and features of the K5. I also love the
fact that I can use these older manual focus lenses. I also ordered the Katzeye
focusing screen which should arrive in a week. Coming later this week is a 77mm lens which I also ordered. Will post some photos when I get more proficient with this camera. Haven't checked for stains yet but will try later this evening

Won't you miss something wider?

Apparently, the 'good' k5 lot starts with SN 39xxxxx so if you have one of those, you should be good to go. The A 35-105, considered to be the 'Prime' zoom is quite a nice lens. I don't know how it all measures up to a full frame camera with L glass but I think you'll enjoy it.

That's definitely a great lens- maybe not wide enough on digital, but certainly very sharp!

I will eventually get a wider lens but I will be shooting mostly portraits and
some sports of my grandchildren.
Checked it for stains and there appear to be none
The serial number is in the 390000 series

I did check the lens out tonight and it is indeed very sharp. I am very pleased with
the cameras ability to achieve a good focus.
I do have one question about an Pentax A lens.
When I shoot in aperture priority it ask me for a focal length. I am not sure what to
put in when I am going to be zooming in and out for various photos. What would be your recommendation when shooting and zooming in and out
thanks
Jim

by the way this forum is a great resource for someone like me who is just
getting their first Pentax digital. The L glass is great but I really enjoy being able
to use the old manual focus lenses that are available

For the SR input focal length, with a manual zoom, I typically go for the middle of the range unless I'm specifically using a certain focal length.

Isn't the reason for putting that in for the shake reduction mechanism to optimize it's effect?
