Here's another reason to turn off the SR:

When you've got the camera on the tripod, a cable attached, or perhaps using the shutter button itself. If the scene is totally set up and the camera is focused, you can't use the 2 or 12 second delay if you are trying to time that certain wave as it hits the shore, or you are waiting for someone to walk into view, or you are trying to catch a car entering the scene, etc. etc.

I normally use the 2 sec delay on the tripod when it won't affect the shot as described above.

I use the mirror up function (MUP) using two buttons (up and left to disable and up and right to enable).
