I used it a lot on K-7, but that was a different camera. The DRon is also working in RAW and not depending on how to go on with that raw-data in software.

But the K-5 is different in the sence that it is a native 14-bit raw camera. So that may mean that the whole system changed. I think it is still basicly a pull-push system to expand the highlight before being blown out.

So does shadow correction actually compress the dynamic range? Sort of similar to HDR applied to a single image?
