problem with new Apple Aperture profile

Apple Aperture now has a color profile for the K5. When reprocessing old masters the improvement is evident (old | new):

But strangely enough some images get completely screwed when I reprocess them:

At the moment it seems to me to be a random thing and undoable. Does anyone know what's going on?

There are multiple threads about the update and the problem. All you can do right now is report the problem to Apple and send them an example of the problem file. You can also downgrade to an older version of RAW Compatibility.

Ihmettelen. Itselläni on aperture 3 ja käytän RAW PEF ei ole ollut pienintäkään ongelmaa. Niin kun aikoinaan oli Windovsissa jatkuvasti pugia.

The problem seems to be with .DNG files, rather than .PEF files.

Well, if it only occurs during reprocessing I can live with it. Most older files I already processed to an OK level. However I am not sure if this is the case. If new files are being messed up too that would be problematic. Odd that Apple - as a premium supplier - makes such errors.

The new decoder by itself does a great job so I would be very happy if I could use it without hesitation.

No, the problem is there also with fresh files; at the moment the only way to me is to shoot PEF until the bug is fixed.

Hi,
I had the same issue and downgraded (via TimeMaschine) the RawCamera.bundle that creates the problems.

The RawCamera.bundle file is stored in the following directory System > Library > CoreServices

It should be enough to downgrade only a single file of this package.
Opening this package we find Contents > Resources the file Raw.plist and use the RawCamera.bundle version 3.6.

Yesterday I downgraded the RawCamera.bundle, but today I will (as suggested by others) downgrade only the Raw.plist.

This Raw.plist can be modified, so maybe someone experienced find the problematic setting itself

Thanks for the tip Vespats! A downside is that the colors that Aperture comes up with with the 'old profile' are significantly worse compared to the 'new profile' (when it decodes correctly that is). For instance I got a green color cast with the old profile. Therefore I decided to switch to PEF for the time being. No problems so far.

I am currently processing hundred of old pictures (DNGs), for the future I may switch to PEF as well.

The Aperture update (and/or 10.6.7) seems to have fixed the .DNG processing/white balance problem.

Great news. I wonder if they've re-broken the K-x DNG processing (which actually was only fixed by the previous update)

Yes - I can confirm that the magenta tinge on .DNG files is no longer there. Aperture RAW processing now works fine for both .DNG and .PEF files. Has anyone noticed a perceptible difference between Aperture processed .DNG and .PEF files (more pleasing colours, sharpness, etc)?

Yes indeed. Apple have solved this issue! Very happy about that.
