If $1400 Was Your Threshold, Now Is Your Time

This was my personal "buy it" price point for the K5, and it seems that it has become the new standard price. B&H is selling for $1399 w/free shipping, Amazon and pretty much all others are right there, too. I just placed my order (with B&H, using the PF link, of course) and feel pretty good about my chances of avoiding a stained sensor at this point (knock on wood). I was also able to throw in a grip for what the body alone sold for originally, so I feel pretty good about that, too. I'm really glad I waited because stuff like stained sensors drives me crazy (of course, by saying that, I'm probably guaranteeing that I'll get one). The FF issue really won't have much of an impact on me, plus I feel pretty confident that Pentax will cure it with a firmware update eventually. Plus, I'm keeping my K7 so I have an alternative.

I also ordered a Hoodman LCD loupe because I'm planning on using Live View more for manual focusing, and this thing seems like it'll be extremely useful outdoors. Looking forward to trying everything out!

So, if $1400 isn't your price, what is?

Prodigital2000 have it at $1319 since couple days ago. I would like to get one at $1299 (body only)... and was looking for body+grip combo. K-5 is just too expensive compare to when k-7 is launch (or either I am too poor).

I could hold for another month and hope it will drop to $1299... but I will get one before the spring is here!

Because of the very real possibility of having to exchange a K5, I had long since decided that I would only buy one from the "big 3" internet camera retailers. As soon as they reached my price point, I would order. I know many are comfortable with some others, but these 3 are who I'm comfortable with. Turns out, I'm glad I ordered from B&H instead of Amazon after reading of folks having shipping delays from them. Mine was shipped the same day and is scheduled to arrive Monday.

now at 1389 with free shipping from b+h... the 2 year extended warranty is 19.95, but out of stock right now... still on pentax imaging usa for 1599-..... so in the relatively short time the k-5's been on sale... we've seen the price drop more than 200 bucks.... still debating about getting a mint k-7 with almost 3 years of warranty coverage for less than 700... or waiting and watching to see how low the k-5 will go............
gotta believe that if the k-5 didn't have the globally recognized stain of shame (glad new inventory seems to be ok) and now the well documented ff issues, to date without any whiff of a firmware release date.. we'd might not have seen a 13% price drop this soon...
nobody's gonna convince me pentax has not taken a financial smack upside the head on the k-5 so far... considering the untold number of return(s) of new and repaired bodies to customers.... glad i'm not the cfo of pentax hoya.....

I vowed and vowed to wait until the price dropped to $1200 before I'd leap. I leaped at $1439. And haven't regretted it one bit.

Well, I'm fine with any further price cuts. After all, I set my own "buy it" price some time ago, and I got that price. Now, if it had dropped $100 the day after I bought, then yes, that would hurt, but at some point, you just have to decide where the tipping point is between denying yourself what you want and paying what you feel is a fair price. I still feel good about it today and I'm just ready to get ta' shootin'!

I think around $1400 is absolutely worth it for the K-5, however personally I would like for it to be more competitive with the D7000 pricewise (~$1200). I think once it hits that point I'll be pulling the trigger. However, at the moment my K20 is any less capable of a camera as it was the day I bought it.

$1399 was my buy it price, but now I am holding off another couple of weeks to further separate myself from the stain issues. I have to order it by the first week of April though because I want to have it at least one full month before my first wedding. Maybe it will go down a little bit more during that time and I can treat myself to the grip too )

I expect that it will go down a bit more by then, but I really think we're o.k. now from a stain point-of-view (he says nervously with fingers crossed). I'll let you know how mine looks and the build date of current B&H inventory, since we know a firm date that Pentax says everything was put right.
