Warranty

Okay so my question runs like this:

If I buy a K-5 from Prodigital2000 on eBay (that seems to be the best price) then can I buy the extended 2 year warranty from B&H and get 3 years of warranty?

TIA.

I am wondering the same thing - if I buy from Amazon can I get the warranty from somewhere else. The only problem that I could see with ProDigital2000 is that they are a Canadian based dealer and since I don't have one of the warranty cards I don't know if they specify countries.

In Canada, the camera will have a 2 year warranty (though it's through PCI).
Don't know if that will affect your decision or not.
For myself, I tend to not buy gray market, so if you are a US buyer, you should probably be buying from a US supplier.

Yeah, I'm sure that if you bought it from Amazon you'd be okay to get the extended warranty somewhere else... But like you say, Prodigital2000 is canadian based so I'm wondering if it would still work. Prodigital2000 says in their listing that the warranty is an international one.

Pentax Canada is a 2 year international warranty. My bad, I'd forgotten that.
In theory if something goes awry, you should be able to use local warranty service.

That's interesting... so do you think buying the US extended warranty would work???

Good question. Is the extended warranty for US only cameras?
I suspect asking this in the B&H forum would be the best way to find out.

I bought my K-5 from a retailer in Japan (I'm living in the US). I asked B&H in this thread and he said I should be ok.

As much as I like and trust B&H, For this matter I think I'd prefer an answer directly from Pentax. Prodigital is an e-bay front for an authorized Pentax dealer in Canada (I forget the name but the question has come up before). Now I've seen ads where Prodigital will act as the liaison for US buyer in getting warranty repairs done in Canada. Sounds like a potential hazard. I would talk to Pentax directly and Prodigital and document the correspondence rather than rely on forum word of mouth.

FWIW - I spoke to Pentax and they told me that for a K-5 bought in the US, I could buy the extended warranty from any Authorized US Pentax dealer. For example - buy the camera from B&H buy the warranty from Adorama. I think buying in Canada may change the equation.

It's actually 2 years Canadian warranty and 1 year international warranty.
