Hello,

Thanks for the responses. I took some shots of the camera and I will post some more but I will start off with one for lack of time.

mrbrightside: I thought a lot about your comment. I think the photos I took will only go so far to help you decide on this. I would bet that the paint/coating is the same that they used on the K-7 Silver, so perhaps someone who has one of those could comment on how it holds up over time. At some point, it is just about taste. I don't know that the "extras" in the silver edition really warrant the price difference (especially with the price falling on the regular K-5.) For me, I am a fan of the silver and black look from my early film camera days and I had been saving for quite awhile to upgrade from my K10D and figured that I will have this K-5 for many years before I upgrade again... so to me, it was worth it. But that's pretty personal reasons and not really based on bang-for-your-buck (in all honesty.)

jasonlel: It had firmware version 1.02 installed. If it had actually shipped in April as it seemed like it was, I would have expected it to have 1.03, but the turn around time from when the firmware was released to when it shipped was probably too short for that to be realistic. Took me less than 5 minutes to update it and how often does something ship sooner than you expect?

Sorry! Enough talking here. I promise to post a few more pics but here's the first:

The K-5 is not metal (at least on the outside) but compared to the ZX-M, it is definitely a higher quality paint/coating.
Are you saying that the silver K-5 has a plastic body? I find that hard to believe. The black K-5 and K-7 have magnesium (ie metal) bodies.

I think the part that may be confusing was this:

"The K-5 is not metal (at least on the outside) but compared to the ZX-M, it is definitely a higher quality paint/coating."

From your second post it sounds like you're just saying it's a different metal than your k1000. I would expect that they are the same body, just with pieces painted a different color. Just like the Leica M9 comes in two different colors, but the underlying metal is still the same.

Mine just came as well and I can definitely say that the body is metal. Finish seems really nice and it looks just great. I don't have any local Pentax dealers so I wasn't even able to hold a K-5 anywhere and I can definitely say this meets or exceeds my expectations. Can't wait to get out shooting, but it looks like my 43 limited isn't going to arrive until early next week. This is going to drive me nuts!

woooo, pretty.

I like how the Pentax text is in black.

How does the revised grip feel?

I don't have another K-5 to compare, but this one feels about perfect to me. The grip is deep enough for me and the sculpting on the grip fits the middle two fingers perfectly. Really enjoying the feel of this thing, but I wish I could get out and shoot. My lens won't be here until Monday!

The new grip is excellent. A noticeable improvement over the black K-5 and the K-7. Fits my large-ish hand much better.

Someone wanted to see with battery grip attached?

There's no special silver battery grip for the silver K-5. This is the standard black one I had on my black K-5 (and my K-7 before that)

I didn't post it to show off its good looks (or lack thereof), I posted it because someone asked.
