Another vote for the limited lenses - once I got used to them, I'm really reluctant to shoot with zooms.

And they are so small and light you can easily fit 2-3 for the same weight as a decent zoom.

At the recent Pentax workshop I attended, almost all the K-5 owners were using DA and FA ltd primes - even the Pentax guy was surprised he was expecting more people to use kit lenses. I guess we Pentax owners know quality when we use it!

If I had to limit myself to just two lenses for street photography, I would select either the DA40 or FA43, plus the DA70. You can shoot nearly everything on just two primes.

If you can carry a third, take the DA21 - I don't use it nearly as often as my FA43 and DA70, but occasionally it comes in handy. I've never needed to go any wider for street photography.

Two lenses?
Depending on whether you have them or not, it's got be the 31mm and 77mm.
No question about it !

The DA 10-17 is great for street photography. You can snap lots of subjects without even pointing the camera at them.

I just bought mine today. Cant wait !!! Reason for upgrading is because I want to get more with my 31, and 77.
I have the DA 18-250 combine it with the FA 31. Best combo for travel, I guess.

Thank you for the kind words, sgrewal. No doubt that you, too, have felt the magic.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. For those recommending the DA40, do y'all think it's fast enough to be utilized in low light/indoor situations? F2.8 sounds a little slow, which may require lots of 6400+.

Oh ... looks like both BH and Adorama raised their K5 body only prices. Grghhh ...

The DA40 is a fine lens, but I haven't even looked at it since I got my FA31.

Yes, but the DA40 is just so cool looking!

The ultimate "street photography" lens, I think. Makes the K-5 kind of look innocuous - like a point and shoot.

The Sigma 30 f/1.4 is a solid lens. I would most certainly pick it up over the FA31, especially at it's price.

18-135+the FA77 or the FA 31 if you ask me. Choose the latter if you do more landscapes than portraits, otherwise the former

If you can swing it, FA 31 and FA 77.

You can do a lot of stuff with those two.

Since you don't want to get too close to people, I don't think you would want a walkaround that doesn't go to at least 70. The Pentax 17-70 has a very nice reputation, but I would go with the 18-135 because the WR would be a really nice feature in a walk around lens.

$peed is nice in an indoor len$, $o I think you really need the Pentax 31mm 1.8.

Could you give more details why you'd pick the Sigma over the FA31, other than price? Thanks!

The DA40 is definetely cool looking. I'm afraid that it might not be fast enough for low light situations though.

How do you like your FA43? It's not that much bigger than the DA40, and it's a whole lot faster.
