Is that a filter from the silver A50/1.2?

And Frank, I agree the silver K5 is likely to hold a place in my kit for several years too...awesome camera.

Do you still use the LX with film just for fun?
Hi Ron,

I'm surprised that you were the first one to see the silver filter Actually I have two of those, one for FA43 and one for FA77. Pity Pentax only had 49mm and 52mm silver filters, otherwise I probably would have got one for the FA31 too. But a black Pentax SMC filter works pretty okay on FA31 I only use filters on four lenses: FA31/43/77 and 80-200, all w/ Pentax filter. Don't use filters for the other lenses.

Yes, I'm still shooting film once in a while. Just got a scanner a week ago so I don't need to send the film to shops for scanning. But a bit too busy nowadays, don't shoot as much as I used to do

I ordered my K-5 Silver from the Pentax Web Store on March 10th, yes March 10th, and have yet to receive it. I cant's say that I am impressed with their service. Any others who've had difficulties with them?

@sgrewal - bet you its stuck at customs waiting to clear - find out how it was brokered. Customs gets to it when it gets to it, a broker will expidite clearance.

thats a sexy setup - thanks for the pic... camera pron /drool

The filter thread for the A50/f1.2 Special is 52mm. B+W make filters in silver. Their name "Digital Pro" = brushed chrome ring

Thanks for the filter info...I know that Pentax made a silver version 50/1.2 and included a silver filter. So what lens was the silver 49mm filter manufactured for?

I use some B+W filters esp. the Kaesmann Polarizers, and cc05r and cc10r on one of my 67 lenses. In general, I have a Pentax cloudy filter on every lens in my 35mm/digi kit. Can't forsee putting anything other than Pentax SMC filters on my limiteds. Pretty much always shoot where there are no people so it isn't like I'll receive public ridicule with a mismatched filter color on my lenses. It's just for my personal enjoyment...

Just as a note, the earlier Pentax SMC filters have silver lettering and a silver stripe in the gloss black filter ring. Later versions have matt black rings with white lettering. Pretty sure the Pentax circ. polarizers are all black with white lettering (I have 49mm, 58mm and 67mm versions).

Later versions of the cloudy filter are a bit stronger in the filter effect (darker) than the earlier versions. So the earlier cloudy filters give me normal shooting while the later filters are for extra warming.

Note that Pentax cloudy filters are more reddish in color than the amber/tan 81A filters most companies market for warming.

All this warm filter talk is part of my shooting situation: high altitude where that big blue sky is a big blue reflector requiring slight warming compensation above what a skylight filter provides. When it is cloudy, some warming is needed and when under the canopy of trees lots of warming is needed. If I'm using flash with macro then warming is needed. At lower elevations I tend to be shooting under the tree canopy or along coastlines or waterways that add too much blue to the light...essentially, most of the circumstances where I shoot I need warming.

Enough already...sorry...(filter geek)...

A pair of Silver K-5s seen at our "sniper" outing yesterday.
Left: K135mm f/2.5 with 1.7x AF converter
Right: FA* 80-200mm f/2.8

Silver looks good even with a seasoned DA 21 in front...

One thing that stands out about the new Silver K-5 is the new grip.
It is definitely a little bigger and contours differently than the usual grip on the black K-5.
If you mount the same lens and dangle the silver and black grips with one finger, the camera hangs at a slightly different angle.
How the little finger comes to rest on the grip is also slightly different too.
It is a toss-up as to which feels better. Those who have bigger fingers will probably like it more than if you have shorter and nimble fingers.
From an aesthetic perspective, the regular K-5 matches the lines of the existing battery grip a little better but only by handling it first hand will you notice the subtle differences.

Nice! Is that a silver A 50mm f/1.2? How rare are they?

EDIT: Pretty, it seems.

I'm now a proud owner of a K5 Silver too. I just picked up my first Limited lens. The DA 40mm but in black. Can't wait to take some new pics!
