Charged! Whoo Hoo I get to twiddle and whirl the knobs and dials........took roughly 4.5 hours to charge lol Hey who's counting?? A generic battery will be brought by the postie but not for a few more days.

So time enough for a quick glance through the manual.......hmmm years of reading in there.......... !st thing is to ditch the auto ISO....and I will update the firmware in the morning. I think I have worked out the aperture and shutter speed dials......but now for some dry bedtime reading...hmmmmm, raw, FX, bracketing, green buttons??
Thanks for all the help so far and I am sure I will be back!
cheers
Jan

I don't understand all these posts about charging the batteries. I thought these batteries came half-charged anyway? (LiIon batteries are supposed to be stored half-charged, AFAIK)

That's enough time to read through the operating manual thoroughly...
+1. It's the best time.

Oh, it's not just me. Having multiple batteries, and/or the grip, helps the situation a lot.

BTW, the fact that these batteries are like aftermarket K10D batteries which leak over time doesn't help. I had 6 K10D batteries -- 2 Pentax branded, and 4 from two other manufacturers -- and while the Pentax branded batteries could be charged, then put aside and sit for months, but when I put it back in the charger it would turn-off immediately detecting a full charge. Aftermarket batteries would always leak greatly their charge in that time. And my K-5's Pentax branded batteries also greatly leak their charge too ... mandating the lengthy charge sooner.

Hmm, I think you just answered my question - I assume that the K-5's come with already depleted batteries? (While my K10D came with a battery with enough charge to start shooting immediately)

Where did you buy that batterie??????????

How long does it run? With normal batterie you can fill easily 32GB card. But in LiveView some extra energy would be handy.
Not sure where to find one in your part of the world, but I found it on Amazon.

Good question. I'd perform some sort of scientific test if I weren't so lazy... :ugh:

Heh ... I wonder how much extra sales a store could get by supplying a precharged spare battery with an order (you need one anyway, right? ).

Alternative: unbox, place battery to charger, pretend you get delivery in a couple of hours, take the sum you'd be willing to pay from wallet/purse and put that on the window sill, when the battery is charged put everything back to box, unbox, and start enjoying a the benefits of a precharged battery, fondle cash and put it back to wallet/purse (a transfer to your own account should work too and is more convenient and safe ). Of course this assumes that there is a tidy sum handy to make it worthwhile, which might be unrealistic given that you have just spent a lot of money, so you might have to accept an IOY or check from yourself
