Thanks everyone! Sgrewal, you should be able to buy the warranty straight from Pentax. You can give them a call....

Thank you for the suggestion, smc.

I wrote to Pentax Canada today and have been advised by them as follows:
"As the camera was not purchased through an authorised dealer here in Canada,
you will only have a 1 year international warranty, which means that if the camera
has to come in for service, you will be subject to an international warranty charge
of $50.00 everytime. "


When I inquired from them as to whether
there was any way for me to get the usual
two year warranty and avoid the $50 charge in the event of a problem, I got the
following response:


"There is nothing that can be done, as the product was not purchased locally.
Also, if you experience any issues with your camera, it may have to be sent to the States or Japan,
as the service centres here in Canada will not have any of the outer pieces, as they are exclusive to some markets only.
"


Looks like I will have to keep my fingers tightly crossed and hope for the best that
there are no issues with the body when I finally receive it, which I still have not, thanks to
Pentax Web Store.

And, for me at least, given the response eof Pentax Canada on the warranty issue and the
deplorable service of Pentax Web store, the lesson after this whole experience is not to buy
anything from them in the US.

Yikes!...I have presumed the warranty would be the same as Canada's but only last a year. I can't see how the outer (silver) pieces could have an issue, so I would suspect it'll be fine. Now that the sensor issue is dealt with, I think having an issue that would require servicing would be extremely remote.....

On a side note, I previously bought a black K-5, so I'm starting to lean towards waiting a bit to see what happens with the price of the Silver K-5. I didn't realize how much I liked the Silver k-7 till it was gone, but at least it went to a good home.

Got my K-5 Limited Silver today. Ordered it from B&H and shipped via UPS Expedited. Battery is charging and anxious to fire it up. After reading the above that the warranty is only 1 year because it came from the US instead of Canada, I still ordered it, the only way to get the silver. I would support the local dealer if they carried it.
