Replacement K-5.

Have had my replacement K-5 for a couple of months now and am coming up to 1000 shots so thought I would do a quick stain test. The sensor was totally clear when it arrived so imagine my surprise to find this on my test shot.

When I sent the original camera back it took nearly 7 weeks to be replaced and I really don't think I can go through that wait again.

Wow that's terrible!
Any idea if the replacement was with the updated sensor or one of the old ones?
When I purchased my K-5, I was specifically told that the stock was from the updated sensors(following the vendor recall).

What is the serial number on your replacement? I guess you sent it in back in December and got the replacement around the beginning of February?

I hope it isn't a time related issue - I took my replacement to Italy in Dec/January (store replaced with a new one direct from Pentax, had them work with their Pentax rep) and took over 2500 photos - checked the sensor again and had no sign of stains, but haven't checked it since. I should take a look. Hopefully it is an isolated incident (not discounting the disappointment you are feeling at all).

Did you get the replacement directly from Pentax repair shop or indirectly from the retailer where you originally bought it from? I hope it is a mistake someone made in the process, not that they intentionally send you another "stained" infected camera.

Serial is 3913*** and the camera came directly from the Pentax repair shop who supplied me with a brand new body.

This isn't the the first time I have heard of this happening. Hopefully this phenomenon is rare.

What was the date of manufacture (you can check using PhotoME)?

Can you check the manufacture date of the replacement in PhotoMe or similar?

Edit: Jinx!

17th Nov 2010.

Should the internal serial number be the same as the external?

Well there you go. Your replacement camera was manufactured in the time frame Pentax specifies as affected cameras.

Send it back for another replacement; insist the maufacture date be after December 21st, 2010.

OK, my heart is beating fine again

We should have a sticky in this forum: "Before reporting a stain problem..."

Step number 1 would be to check/report the Manufacture Date rather than the serial number and background story.

Format the SD card?

When I got to replace my stained camera in the shop, they took a shot to agree there was a stain and then swapped over the camera. I of course then took a test shot with the new camera. Imagine my disappointment when it exhibited the same staining... until I thought to delete the image shot on the old K5

Bit annoying as part of the reason I had to wait 7 weeks was because Johnsons (Pentax repair company) were waiting for brand new stock from Pentax France.

Anyway, I emailed Johnsons earlier today and they have just got back to me saying they will pick the camera up when I get back from Spain and get another to me straight away.

On the upside I suppose I wont feel guilty racking up loads of pictures while away on holiday.

I don't recall any of mine matching Mike. I think the internal serial number is for the motherboard or something, not for the overall camera.
