K-5 humming/scratching with LV and video

I have just noticed that my K-5 hums (or rather makes a scratching noise) when in Live View and Video modes. It is faint, but distinct: I have to have my ear near the camera to hear it.

The noise seems to contribute to background noise when recording videos.

I have spent some time listening to the noise, and trying to identify it, and would describe it as more of a scratching sound rather than a hum.

It seems to be associated with the mirror up (video, live view, or m-up), and independent of whether SR is on or off.

Can someone try holding the pentaprism against their ear while running video and let me know their verdict please?

Regards Rob

It's perfectly normal, and represents the shake reduction mechanism in action.

Even when SR is in the "off" position, it is energized to keep the sensor module centered WITHOUT movement -- with no power it would just slide around uncontrolled.

Some times the sensor does make more grinding sounds than others though...I've noticed this on my K-7. My theory is that it's a speck of sand getting on the platter. My camera's noise worked itself out after a few days.

Here's another user having the same issue with their K-r

The K-5 even makes a mild grinding noise after each actuation when not in video or live view mode.

The good thing about the K-5 is that you can turn SR off in video mode to avoid having that grinding noise from featuring on your recorded videos.
