K-5 prices are Up!

April, 3
I tried holding out for a bit better price, body only, but B&H has gone up to $1.499.
Amazon to $1,473.
Adorama looks to be holding at $1,399, for now.
Guess I better jump on that before they go above msrp!

Think Pentax is milking this hot cow?

don't buy it if you are after a bargain

K-7 is half the K-5 price and does about the same work

K-r too

K-x is one third its price

K-5 has a premum to it which you pay and it makes no sense to talk about 100 or 200 bucks here.

Ah OK - you want to have the best camera and pay a bargain price. Well...

If you can hold out, then definitely do so. Used one's are also starting to pop-up between $1200 to $1250 here, ebay, and other forums. Once supply chains stabilize, I wouldn't expect prices to trend anywhere but downward.

Not to make anyone feel bad, but I got mine one week ago at Amazon for $1,235 & Free Shipping. No Finance charge if paid off in a year. That's body only, but Amazon is an authorized dealer for Pentax. I say this, because I'm sure it will pop up again. Just keep waiting and looking if money is tight. I'm not retired, but I'm tight.

Prices appear to be fluctuating quite a bit as of lately.

Price was $1369 for body only at B&H and Adorama for a while. Got mine from B&H for $1399 body only a week and a half ago shortly after the price went up. Then a week later, price went down to $1299 for about 3-4 days. Called B&H for a price adjustment and got it. Then on the same day price went back up to $1399. And now, 5 days after the price adjustment, the price is apparently $1499.

IMO, highly unlikely for the price to go beyond $1499 though. I'm sure Pentax is not crazy enough to price the K-5 more than $300 above the D7000.

The knock-on effect of the disaster in Japan is already having an impact where I am. Talking to a reputable camera shop a few days ago, Nikon prices for the Fx cameras have gone up 5%, some Canon's L lenses and Nikon lenses are starting to be limited in availability or the agent has got no stock updates and prices are going up. Pentax prices may hold steady for now but the full extent of the power rationing and disruption in the production and supply chain will start to kick in sooner rather than later. So don't bank upon the expected trend of prices sliding lower moving forward.

Also, it *may* be a good idea buying a "pre earthquake" camera. I know the Pentax bodies are assembled in the Phillipines, but I am assuming some parts come from Japan.

I am under the impression that some parts for cameras need to be high precision. Maybe I'm wrog.

And today there has been reports of another quake around Java.

I purchased my K-5 and other cameras and equipment at B & H. Always found the better price, great customer service and free parking in NYC and no shipping taxes !
