K-5 with 18-135 Price?

Gonna take the plunge and grab a K-5 but I would like the 18-135 WR.Anybody out there know where the best price is?By the way I am in Vancouver ,B.C., Canada.Have called the local camera stores and I'm looking at about $2000 to buy locally. So if buying locally is only a liitle bit more than ordering from the U.S. I think I'd like to stay local.

I don't think you're going to do much better buying from the US. Prices on the body range from 1400-1500 USD at the moment and the 18-135 is about 500 USD. By the time you get done with shipping and taxes (even with the favorable exchange rate), I don't think you'd save much (if anything).

I think the above comment is correct, even with border charges.

You may want to consider lens only:

Does anyone know why Pentax hasn't released a kit with the K5 and 18-135 in combo? It would seem like a perfect combo and target the Nikon D7000 18-105 combo.

I've posted this before, but back in Feb. I spent $1600 on eBay form a seller in Japan. I got the kit in 3 days. The only down side is if you need to use the warranty and have to ship it back to Japan. Luckily, I haven't had to do that yet. Since it was from Japan, it was a kit, not body and lens separate.

No idea why they haven't to be honest.

I personally find the K-5 and 18-135 to be a terrific combo

Last time I asked (3-weeks ago) Prodigital2000 (an Ebay store) was selling the combo for $1750.

Not a clue. Random Pentax marketing, not taking advantage of features not seen in other brands at this price point.

I like it with my K-7. Fast, good colours and contrast. sharp enough for me.

Assuming something is not being lost in translation, the 18-135 kit lens is hardly a waste. It's a very useful lens with a great range. Is the 50-135 better optically? I also own that lens and there is no question the 50-135 is superior in terms of IQ. That said, they serve different purposes and one would not replace the other.

The K-5 (body only) is $1,340 USD and the 18-135 is $520 from proditial2000 on ebay. That's $1,860 USD for both, and you get free shipping.

I've seen the K-5 with 18-153 "kit" for around $1,600 to $1,700, but it's only been from Japan or Taiwan. As gtxtom mentioned, warranty becomes an issue, and you only get one year.
