k-5 images seem slightly soft

The images on my k-5 seem noticeably softer than using the k-x. Noise reduction is off, shadow and highlight are off. Sharpness is up, contrast is up. The contrast shadow is down a bit. When the images are blown up to actual pixels,the point most in focus seems to have a slight "milky" appearance. Kind of like what noise reduction in the k-x looks like. Seems it should be sharper. I havent tried the adjustment of the contrast shadow/detail yet. All raw format. Any suggestions?

That hasn't been my experience. I've gone from the K10 to K20 to K5 with Lightroom, and i've not having any difficulty sharpening the k5 to the level of sharpness i wish. "milky" - not experiencing that. Last Sunday i took about 300 pictures for play promos, and they came out with sharpness such as the following:

Sure its not the difference in resolution (16M versus 12M) showing up the optic faults more?

That could be it. OP, don't forget that viewing images from the K-5 at 100% will effectively be a lot bigger than the K-x. So your lenses and your technique will need to work harder to achieve the same level of apparent sharpness.

The K-5 is not 'soft'.

No issues ever with any of my cameras owned to date, including the K-5.
Please provide samples - too many variables to speculate: focus, aperture setting, motion blur, camera shake, etc...

I've had to make some adjustment "in my mind" on every new camera I have owned since the DS. They are all a little different. I prefer to process the Raw files in most cases, so it pretty much equalizes the results.

For sharpness, I use Focal Blade some, it is superb, but most often a single click with Focus Magic will get you what you want. For contrast and clarity, Paint Shop Pro has the "Clarify" feature that is also a one click wonder at getting fast contrast and clarity.

Everyone has their methods, these are mine.....they work for me, but there are undoubtedly other options. I don't expect to see what I want in the finished photo out of a Jpeg....not with the K5 or any other camera by any maker. I have used a friends D700, and found it was no different in need for some processing.

I'm not having to "work" at getting this stuff sharp at all, an amazing camera. Course i do have a good version of the Tamy 28-75, this was at f7.1, 1/160, iso4000

Have you calibrated your lenses properly? If not, I suggest that you do so, and then test again.
