Just wonder why Pentax is more expensive n US

A guy in Taiwan bought the silver k-5 for $1512 usd, come with free additional OEM battery and WR remote control:

k5 limited silver ??????? - Pentax Fans Club

Blame the weak dollars?

Each local (in-country) distributor sets its own pricing to meet Tokyo targets for unit sales, revenue, and profitability.

Of course the forex rates come into play but there are plenty of other factors that are not visible from the outside - nor should they be. Pentax is understandably reluctant to hand its strategy to the competitors.

Perhaps?! For sure. I bought a lens in the Marketplace from an Australian member and was shocked to find that I wasn't going to get the "Yankee discount" to which I had become accustomed.

I guess it's good for American exports, though.

Pentax gear is cheaper in the US than almost everywhere else. We've got it easy.

Right (and, anyway, I think we substantially agree. ;~)

If the warranty isn't that much of an issue, maybe Pentaxforum can organize a batch purchase.

Pentax Forum in Taiwan and China did that to get 'group' discount from seller (and often come with additional accessories like spare battery and remote control like above) of a new release product (lens or camera). Kind of like the 'Groupon' concept.

Can try this vendor (fully warrantied by local agent):

Gizmobuy - the very first online camera store in SG?!!!

or communicate directly to an actual shop called SLR Revolution via Facebook:

Ok, tried the first link, and the link in that forum to their website doesnt work.

Does the SLR revolution have a web site or is it all done by private messages on facebook?
