Send it back or is it normal.

Just need a bit of advice and to see if anyone else is having this problem.
I sent my Camera back to CR Kennedy a month back because of focusing problems and also the strange shutter functioning.
I got it back and put it to the test over the weekend. Using a FA*27-70 on friday night I tried to take a pano shot inside the house on a tripod and pano head. Using a time delay as well as normal shutter pressing. As I pressed the shutter button the camera would what sound lik take a few shots.Onlt one would be taken though, each time I pressed the shutter after that it was very noisy and clunky.
Agin yesterday while shooting powerboats it also sounded like it was shooting fast continuos when only one shot. Today I would auto focus and start clicking away at what agoin sounded loke muti shots. I tried manual focus and still got the same thing at times.Mainly in bridgt light situations.Maybe it is just the FA* 28-70 and the 80-200 it doesnt like. Ive even had it fire a couple of shots completely white wth all the meta dato showing OK. Im off to the US for six weeks in 2 weeks time and dont want to take a dud camera. I seem to be getting a lot of shots with blown highlights and over saturated colors ant proper settings. Pentax replaced all the senor and focusing mecanis under warranty 2 weeks ago. Low and focusing seems to OK.
Just wondering if anyone else has a K5 that does this. Using these lenses on my K10 are normal.

John

Is it safe to assume you haven't put the camera in Continuous Shooting mode?

No its not that. Only just placing a bit of pressure on the shutter release can cause it to clutter away at times.

Read the operating manual carefully to familiarize yourself with the camera, then reset the camera to the default settings and re-check your settings that you might have set accidentally (bracketing? fps? multi-exposure? exposure compensation? etc.)

Totally agree about the reset & manual, my first thought is that In Camera HDR has been set.

Creampuff I have read the manual inide out over the last 4 months. It is impossible to set the HDR as I shoot raw only.I have only had the camera back just over 2 weeks and was on zero shutter release. I have reset it and gone back to facory settings.
Not bracketing. Just want to know if anyone has had similatr problems before I contaxt penatax again.
Just thought someone might have experienced this. If it was bracketing it would be on all shots just not now and then.If I was to use HDR it shows on the screen when processing. Hopefully someone with a K5 might be able to help.

I've had the exactly the same thing happen, but only occasionally, since I got the camera in December. At first I thought it was heat related, as I was on vacation in Australia and it happened on especially hot days. But now back in Germany it happened once on a cool evening and then just at the right time when I was with a Pentax specialist in a shop. So it's off for repair now. I don't know if it is related, but I also felt that my shutter release button was 'mushy' - and when I compared it to a new one in the shop, there was a definite difference in the resistance to slight pressure.

Send it back, it sounds like they have introduced new faults

I would be asking for a new camera tbh.

I think you are right. I looked at the data on my original Camera was manufactured on the 6-12-2010 and pentax replaced most of the internals when it was being repaired for focus issues.
The same body came back and original serial number but internal number is for 5-11-2010. I will ask Pentax next week.
It could be an issue with my FA* lenses.

6-12-2011 is supposed to be 2010?

And obviously it's not in Live View...so yeah, send it back.

Maybe you have something there. I had better check some more. It sounds the same as when I have it in live wiew and it clicks and zooms in and out to focus. Might be something there.Yes sorry ti was 2011.Pentax repaired it very quick.
I dont use live viw but sounds the same.

Getting close I think. Wasnt in hi speed mode today, wasnt in bracketing and want live view but noise is similar. I did use hi speed yesterday in TAV mode but was shooting in manual today.
Still maybe something to do with FA* lens I use.

Yeah just got mine back from CRIS two weeks ago and It’s been acting up right out of the box. Half pressing the shutter, (focus), will actuate the shutter and do it multiple times but no pictures are taken. It’s almost as if it is in continues shooting mode but I have it in single shot. This happens on my kit lens 18-55 and my manual lenses, some Super Taks. Another gripe I have is that my Dust Alert is not working. I tried it right out of the box and all I get is, the operation could not be completed correctly. Man I got a horrible copy. My first K-5 was flawless except for the sensor stain, which is why I sent it in. If I didn’t have a friend’s wedding to shoot next month I would have sent it in day one. If it helps any the Serial# starts at 383 on this body.

Thats exactly what this one is doing now. The serial number here starts at 395. I have reset the camera abd changed the buttons around. Im trying using the auto focus button on the back of the camera for focus ant the top shutter buton for shutter release only. See if that makes a difference. I dont want to spend six weeks in the USA and have crappy shots from internal camera movement when I take a shot. With under 2 weeks to go I dont think I would get it back in time if I sent it back.
