I don't remember if I already put up this recent Milky Way attempt using the FA31 and OGPS-1

here is a small thumbnail:

Best to view it via this link:

80-sec exposure at f/2.2. it is a 5-frame pano, so able to print in large sizes with plenty of star detail.

Here's a couple I took this weekend in west Texas near Caprock Canyon. These were all taken with the Pentax K5 IIs and the DA* 16-50

And just for fun I tried a bit of night sky combined with painting with light.

Fantastic shots. I live just a couple hours away from this area and have been meaning to landscape astro shots. Did you use OGPS unit for these shots?

Sage97, no I keep my exposures under 30 seconds to avoid star trails.. usually shoot at 20 seconds when possible. I've considered buying the OGPS unit but keep talking myself out of it. The Caprock Canyon has some amazing areas to include that dramatic landscape with the night sky. Hope to go back before long.

Thank you very much Jim. I'll make it a trip out there as soon as all these clouds start going away. I imagine it must've been really dark out there.

Thanks, Mike.

Next time I am out in San Francisco let's get together. I usually make a one week trip out there to shoot the Bay Area, Big Sur, Etc... you probably know some cool places I've never visited.

Night Sky - Caprock Canyon, Texas

This was taken from a wash in Caprock Canyon, Texas last weekend. I hiked in about half a mile or so to shoot up at this formation so that I could get that incredible star field as a backdrop. It was probably around 1 or 2 in the morning. This was taken with only the light of the quarter moon and starlight. Just take in all those stars. It was amazing to be there in the dead of night, a soft breeze blowing and the sound of coyotes in the distance.

Shot the moonrise and penumbral lunar eclipse (very subtle) tonight. Nice out there but it got pretty chilly once the sun went down!
