Hello Seti

Do you acquire your photos on the SD card of the K5, or on a computer you link to the K5 ?

I used to run Pentax Remote Assistant with my K10 to acquire directly on a laptop, but will it work with a K5?

Thanks

I use pkTether (PK_Tether | Tethering and remote control software for Pentax DSLR cameras). That way I can have the pentax k5 set to bulb and let the computer control the exposure length and shooting interval. then the raw files just upload to the computer in real time. Then you can have programs like DeepSkyStacker Live monitor the folder and real time register the files as they are being captured.

Thanks

Awesome! Remember you can't use live preview on the camera when hooked to pktether. I usually do all my aligning first with live preview. Then hook it up to pktether to do imaging. I ran into problems trying both at once. Usually had to pull the battery out to do a hard reset on the camera.

Fisheye lens' star party

Not pro astrophotography pictures but I wanted to share just a couple shots with the Pentax Fisheye zoom lens.
From Lake Huron, still frozen! It was pretty cold! Alignment is not perfect and light pollution was pretty bad too.
Best,
sebastian

testing a new coma corrector

I bought a Baader Multi Purpose Coma Corrector (MPCC) for use with my Orion 8" f3.9 astrograph. The scope has a lot of coma, as expected from a fast Newtonian. The MPCC is designed for DSLR photography with the exact amount of backfocus for a t-ring (other cameras can be used by adjusting spacers).

Here's my first shot with the MPCC. Stars remain sharp across the frame so the it did its job. This was just a test without a PC, so I wasn't using autoguiding nor using pk_tether for >30 second exposures.

Target was M101 and some NGC galaxies are also visible.

The shot looks good. And because I have a 12'' f4 mirror, and I want to built a body this summer for it, I'm very interested. I know there is a MPCC Mark II, and Mark III. What type is yours?

The Mark III. Let me add that it's designed for astrophotography; visual use requires screwing spacers between the corrector and eyepiece, and each eyepiece needs different spacing.
