happy K5 users who moved from K200D ??

Greetings -

K200D owner looking for better existing light performance for 'clubbing'.

Any folks who have moved from a K200D to a K5 and who are happy with the change?

Thanks,

- Richard

Ditto, its a wonderful camera... I'm not sure that I really deserve it. However, I bit the bullet last weekend and sold my K200D, so no going back now

How much did you sell it for? The thought does cross my mind from time to time to sell it since ive hardly touched since i got the k-5 but i like keeping it knowing i have a back-up just in case.

K200D to K-5. Keeping K200D as backup/secondary. So far fairly happy with the change as it is a BIG change difference in terms of price and features. Just a bit cautious with new K-5 as the first one I got a few weeks ago - the lens release button came off. Returned and got another one.

I upgraded to the k-5 from the K200D back in March. I upgraded largely for the K-5's DR and because I might need the video for a web related project I'm involved in. Since I was really very happy with the K200D, I was not strongly inclined to upgrade. But once I made the move, I have found no reason to regret it. The k-5 is a true upgrade from the K200D (which can't be said of any other Pentax camera), out performing the older camera in DR, high ISO (by a large margin), cleanliness of images, and AF. The k-5 even improves the performance of certain lenses: I'm getting better pics from my DA* 300 and much better pics from my DA 10-17.

I too went K-5 coming from the K200 and for club environments it's a great improvement. First of all, the K-5 finds focus in situations where the K200 would unsuccessfully buzz back and forth with no end in sight. Second - just take a look at any iso-test. The dynamic range is a terrific bonus too.

Sold my K200D here in the marketplace, and upgraded to the K5. The K5 is better in every way, and I'm so happy I made the decision.

Also upgraded from K200D to K-5. No regrets for all of the obvious reasons and plenty of subtle improvements as well. However, I still love the K200D and it is my secondary and always within reach.

Me too. Dynamic range (therefore the amount of raw image manipulation possible) and low-light capability blow the 200D out of the water, no regrets about the switch.

On the other hand, there's something different about the images the 200D produces - not easily quantifiable but when I look back at my pre-K5 photos there's a certain "pop" to many of them which I don't get on the K5 with the same lenses and the same photographer. I'm not even going to try to speculate on why that is or even claim it's real and not a product of my imagination.

Another "me too" post and I have the same comment that timh has about the images.

It seems I do a lot more post-processing (sharpening) with the resulting images than I did with the images from the k5.

Went from k200d to K-5 just over a month ago. It was the first camera Pentax put out that was enough of an improvement on all features to push me over the edge (well, maybe the 645d, but I'm not looking to drop 10k on a camera....yet)

My first copy had to go back because of the low-light focusing issue, but the second body is amazing.

The high-ISO capabilities and improved autofocus help me get shots that would not have been possible with the k200d.

I haven't looked back through enough pictures to detect any 'pop' from the k200d that is missing in the k5 photos, but if there is any minor difference in quality, I would chalk it up to the CCD vs. CMOS sensor.

hey richard... i loved my k200d... (originally had the k100d)... loved the feel and build of it... but of course i was enchanted with the k-x... wonderful image quality and iso range... but not the build of the k200d... finally graduated to the k-5... love coming back to the build quality of my old k200d, but with that stealth shutter, excellent dynamic range, and of course the generous iso capabilities.... and pretty easy to master it's menus... funny, feel badly about my k200d and k-x stored away now.... not being used....
regards, dave m

I also give up on waiting for k200d upgrade and bought the K-5. ISO, focus, LV, video (but as far as we know video is not good compare to Canikon) is good for me. But what I miss on K200d:

1. use of AA batteries (so I bought a grip);
2. RAW button missing on K-5 (I still don't understand why as so many buttons added but this is removed);
3. The switch to the menu while pressing the OK button when selecting the focus point is annoying and have me miss shots;
4. the FPS is great.... but without good continuous AF this is kind of pointless.

No camera can meet everyone's needs I guess. I still think K-5 is a little expensive... I have difficult time deciding if I should get another good glass than getting K-5.
