k-5 - Terrific shadow recovery

Yesterday, after a lot of drinks, I took a photo of a co-worker. And in the first shot, I forgot to adjust the ISO. It was almost complete dark frame. The correct exposure conditions were ISO 1600, 1/60s, f1.8.

But this first shot I took was at ISO 80, 1/60s, f1.8

The above image - corrected for exposure and some shadow recovery in Aperture (very simple and quick adjustments, nothing fancy)

And this is the correctly exposed image - ISO 1600, 1/60s and f1.8

Quite unbelievable...

Truly amazing. Thank you for posting such a real-world test. In those three pics you sold another K-5 I am sure.

Just like in the cop TV shows where they stare intensely at a surveillance image on
a computer monitor. "Can you enhance that?" Well yes, yes I can. Finally, "enhance that" actually works in real life!

Regards,
--Anders.

magic

Those who like to shoot all manual like myself, but lack the magic touch of a pro will find the K-5 dynamic range quite... forgiving )))

Amazing sensor there from Sony and good on Pentax to put it inside the camera
