Camera Rotation

Hi all

I'm trying to find the option where if I rotate the camera, the review display rotates as well, so that "portrait" photos fill the screen. I have checked the auto-rotation option, but that doesn't seem to work.

I'm going to look for more options but I don't recall finding another

Cheers

Francis,

The "Auto-rotate" option is to rotate portrait photos to vertical when viewed on the LCD Panel.

There is no option to then rotate a portrait photo to vertical when the camera is held vertical.

Regards

Chris

Thanks. My K7 displayed portrait photos "vertically" when I held the body "horizontally" but when I rotated the camera, the photo would then "stay vertical" and expand to fill the screen.

Unfortunately this great feature was removed from K-5

Strange...no reason to remove this feature.

It is very possible that it's a bug in firmware.

I hope it is "just" firmware as it does not seem to be a mechanical limitation.

The hardware must be there as the camera can identify the portrait picture when you are taking them.

That doesn't make things any different. Pentax issued three firmware updates for K-5 ant none of them addressed this issue.

What about unchecking the auto-rotation option? I don't own a K-5, but portrait images should then fill the screen. They should be in the wrong orientation when the camera is held horizontally, but that's not a disaster, AFAIC.

Regarding a firmware upgrade: I'm afraid Pentax thinks the new behaviour is a feature rather than a bug. This issue has been discussed on this forum before.

Didn't know it was discussed before, sorry about that. I'm fine with it. It doesn't make my photos "worse" as I'm already very damned bad.

You don't have to be sorry.
I just thought I point out that you might want to have a look at this past discussion.

Considering that I sincerely thought that "unchecking the auto-rotation option" was a flaky idea, I just tried it today.... what the heck, right?

Well, portrait shots now rotate to fill the screen if I rotate the body.

I apologize for the thought!
